New EPT Idea to Counter Pilot Skill Wars

Elite Pilot Talent

Cool Name

Small ship only.

When defending, you may reroll 1 defense die. If the attacker's pilot skill value is "10" or higher, you may instead reroll up to 2 defense dice.

3 squad points

This is basically the opposite of Predator. The idea was to hurt high pilot skill pilots who take Veteran Instincts or Adaptability. With this, a nerf for Veteran Instincts is not necessary as people are starting to claim it is in need of one.

Anyone got an idea of a cool name for this card? I was thinking of something that has to do with evasive maneuvering.

Blasters Are Red, Lasers Are Blue; When I Defend I Get An Extra One or Two.

Good idea.

"You cannot take this pilot talent if you have a pilot skill of 6 or higher."

Limits it to the lower Aces, as Poe getting rerolls vs Vader makes no sense, just because Vader is even more of a Veteran than he is.

Stay Sharp?

In any case, I like it. I love defensive mods. If you wanted, you could also word it as '... Pilot Skill value is X or more points higher than your own ...'.

Rather have an ept that swaps ps with the enemy (perhaps in arc and at range 1)

Here is some art I think would look cool (I wanted something being chased).

I think the first one would look nicer on a card.

"A Few Maneuvers."

Which brings me to the point of why Small Ship Only?

I like the idea of a low PS limit thought: low (1-3) and mid (4-6) PS range.

I would say cannot equip if PS is 8 or higher, since those are the culprits of PS10+. Is 3pts to low for any reroll? Lone Wolf is 2pts and only blanks, and 1-2 from a friendly. A card like this might be a 4 pointer, or the first 5pt EPT? I could see x7 Vessery loving it.

Hmm, limiting it to PS 10 might not be enough. Why not PS9 or even 8, as ten is not even possible without adaptability or vi.

And keep it costed at 3, if it's restricted to PS 5 and below it will only go on PS 3, 4 & 5. Personally I think it woukd be great if it was non-unique pilot only. That way it's beginners luck for the generic aces.

Because ps9 isn't as big of a problem than ps 10 and 11

If you want to mirror Predator then it should be two dice against PS8 and higher. That way it covers the two highest natural PS levels just like Predator covers the two lowest natural PS levels.

I agree. PS 10 and above is too situational for the two die benefit. Heck, predator has lost some of its luster since barely anyone flies PS 2 or lower nowadays.

How about:

"Duelist"

Once per round, when you are declared the target of an attack, if you have the attacker in your firing arc at range 1-3 and you have not attacked this phase, you may immediately perform a primary weapon attack on that ship. After your attack resolves, that ship then resolves their attack. You may not attack again this round.

Cost: ?

Fly Casual...?

Academy training...

Zealous recruit...

I'd actually make it the exact opposite of Predator. Make it a defensive reroll of the enemy's attack dice.

List composition rules might need to be introduced: "Limit of 1 PS9 or more" or maybe even PS8+ limited to one.

My latest list is PS11, PS6, PS1, PS1 and it wins just fine against PS7+ lists (Miranda Dash, Miranda Rey, Fenn and Friends, etc.) 5-0 so far with it~

I really like this idea! Some really good input from the community on this one ^_^ . I really like the idea of being able to reroll defensive dice. Another idea, besides your own, is I've often wondered about a "Target Lock" type ability for defensive dice. Maybe you could "tag" an opponent (works just like target lock) but it applies to your defensive dice and costs an action to use "Evasive Maneuvers!' maybe?

I think StevenO nailed it.

and wurms with this.

How does this make sense? Just hardcap PS at 9 and be done!

I definitely like that idea. An elite upgrade that's only for generics would be nice. "Beginner's Luck" sounds good.

Would it be worth the upgrade itself being unique?

Rerolling 2+ defence dice is really powerful. An x7 Glaive with this (for the sake of a worst-case argument) has focus, evade, 3 green dice and 2 rerolls against yon alpha strike boys. That's....really powerful.

If you make it rerolling up to 2 blanks, that's on a par with Rey's ability, and whilst it's as good in a one-on-one situation, in a many-on-many it's a lot less good as once you've spent your focus token you'll really feel the difference.

I hadnt thought about X7's.

What if it was an any ship title, thereby avoiding some combos and only pilots without epts. Other than the VcX 100 are there any ships with high PS and no ept?

If it’s the opposite of “Predator” you should call it “Prey”.

The Punisher (not too big a deal)

The K-wing (Miranda Doni is certainly a pilot you need to consider!)

The Y-wing (Horton Salm)
