Objective Based Sloane

By The Jabbawookie, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hi! I'm new to the forums and was looking for some feedback on this list. It gave me first place at a small tournament recently, with two 10-1s (one against a 9 activation swarm fleet) and a 7-4. I'm thinking of running it for Regionals.

2nd Player Sloane

Faction: Galactic Empire
Points: 392/400

Commander: Admiral Sloane

Assault Objective: Advanced Gunnery
Defense Objective: Fire Lanes
Navigation Objective: Superior Positions

[ flagship ] Imperial II-Class Star Destroyer (120 points)
- Admiral Sloane ( 24 points)
- Avenger ( 5 points)
- Agent Kallus ( 3 points)
- Boarding Troopers ( 3 points)
- Electronic Countermeasures ( 7 points)
- Leading Shots ( 4 points)
= 166 total ship cost

Quasar Fire I-class Cruiser-Carrier (54 points)
- Flight Controllers ( 6 points)
= 60 total ship cost

Gozanti-class Cruisers (23 points)
- Comms Net ( 2 points)
= 25 total ship cost

Gozanti-class Cruisers (23 points)
= 23 total ship cost

1 "Howlrunner" ( 16 points)
9 TIE Fighter Squadrons ( 72 points)
2 Lambda-class Shuttles ( 30 points)

The idea is to milk the objectives for points while the ISD draws attention. The rest of the fleet can be kept safe through relay. I've consistently lost most or all of the TIEs to flak, but they earn their points back in full through dead enemy squadrons and objective tokens. (And, y'know, their ships aren't shooting at my ships as much.) ;)Until recently I ran Stronghold on the Quasar, but switched that out for comms net for the BTs, and Kallus to deal with Sloane aces. As a Kallus alternative, Squall might let me go first sometimes so I can rush out my Lambdas to abuse their Fire Lanes/Intel Sweep/Salvage Run/etc., which sounds deliciously evil. I'm considering switching to Most Wanted and giving the ISD Gunnery Team to be safer, but I don't want to give MSU an easy out. The Lambdas being targeted worried me a little bit, but so far it hasn't been too much of an issue thanks to relay keeping them pretty much out of range.

How would you modify/fight this?

Love the list, keeping your ships lean and mean with a whole slew of generic ties, very Imperial!

A few suggestions,

ISD2’s LOVE Gunnery teams, it really helps vs msu’s when you can take out two ships with one activation

It may be worth swapping one of the ties for black squadron for a little extra protection for howlrunner

Most wanted, fire lanes, and sensor net would be brutal to choose from against this

I like it too. Most importantly, if you are winning dont mess with too much.

I would look at that 7-4 and see what the weakness that got exploited was, and see if you can cover that weakness without eroding the base of the list.

One thing to consider is tossing Dengar in? The only thing that makes a swarm of TIEs more annoying is when each one effectively has counter 2.

Thanks for the suggestions! They all seem well though out and helpful.

MW and Gunnery Teams are something I agonize over every time. I think I will make the switch, because if my 240+ point ISD goes down I'll probably just straight up lose.

The 7-4 was due to me foolishly rushing the quasar straight down the center into Foresight and Admonition, rather than using the lambdas. I'm pretty sure I can avoid a repeat of that, and I cut Stronghold so I won't be tempted to use it. :D

Dengar would be amazing, and I'd love a source of intel. The only problem is the 20 point price tag. I can't figure out what I'd toss to make room (other than my bid.)

I honestly would just go max points with this fleet, as you are happy going first or second player. Dengar would be such a brutal addition to the swarm if it can fit it’d be worth it.

And definitly add Gunnery teams, as it also prevents squads from hiding in your front arc that would much rather shoot at a ship. This way you can do both

Me trying to get Dengar into my list:

Even maxed out, I'd have to remove something crucial or I'm three points over. Crucial in this case means ECMs, Flight Controllers, leading shots or 2 TIEs, and escort coverage would be poor. I'm thinking hard about a generic jumpmaster now though, even without the amazing counter ability.

How’s this? You lose Kallus and one tie fighter, but I think you make up for it with an even more hard hitting squad ball and he ability to lay into the squads with your ISD more readily. You can drop black squadron to a regular tie for Kallus, but I feel at least a little bit of protection for Dengar/howl would be good. Plus Dengar boosts Blacks counter as well

That's probably the best way to fit him. I can see that working quite well. Superior positions is probably here to stay though. Even with Fire Lanes, it's easily the nastiest of the three. Sensor net is great with lambdas, but it inhibits the positioning and timing of the whole fleet for what I see as a comparable (but still massive!) points benefit. At the first opportunity I'll test this version, and tell you how it goes. :D

Completely agree on dengar.

Of you could find 6 Points for xi7, It would be great on avenger. Without bt, you fish for One acc to exhaust a brace if there is One. Other alternative is to downgrade to isd1 and go for bt or Carrier build.

Try Mauler-Dengar-Fel-Howl (+2 lambda and 2 ties=115points) if you have time to test games, I Call them 4 horsemen of apocalypse:)
