SHIELDS
Shields allow a ship to suffer damage without the risk of being dealt faceup Damage cards. The blue number on a Ship card is the ship’s shield value, indicating how many shield tokens to place on the Ship card during setup.
• A ship cannot have more shield tokens than its shield value. If a ship has a number of shield tokens equal to its shield value, it cannot recover shields.
I have been playing this game wrong.
Shields only block face up damage cards. Not regular hits.

That's from the wiki. That's not how damage is explained on page 9 of the FTA core rules reference.
It was enough to make me go look, though!
Well, duh. When you take a shield hit, you discard the shield token by turning it face down. The number of shield tokens never changes.

Sounds like you all have come to the conclusion that shields can neither be created, nor destroyed, only changed to different forms.
That's all well and good for you, but now you've stolen all of my agency.
Anyone else think that this game isn't fun at all anymore and that we should meme as hard as we can at FFG until they return shields to their rightful canonical state?

What is going on here? Don't shields basically cancel out damage cards that aren't critical?
Shields never cancel anything, they are more like an enhancement of your inner self.

This makes sense, I mean the tie fighters over Deathstar one were shredding through y wings and x wings as if they didn't have shields... maybe the x wing fix will be to revert the shields to their proper state.
