Barrel Roll Protocol and Actions with New Star Vipers Title Clarification?

By eagletsi111, in X-Wing

So I have played quite a few games against the new star vipers, with the new title.

Some questions have arisen each game and each person thought it was different.

When using a bank template to barrel , You still must select the side before placing the template correct? (Pretty sure this is the case)

Question:

After you have placed the template on a side, can you choose to flip the template the other way? So for instance, lets say someone declares a barrel roll action. They place the template so the bank moves the ship forward, but after checking cannot make the barrel roll forward. What Happens? One guy claimed his action was not allowed so he went for another action, but if he flipped the bank template he could have still barrel rolled. So I didn't think so, but in the interest of fun let it go.

So how does everyone else play it?

Thanks,

In our local playgroup you can slide & flip the template as often as you'd like, until the ship itself is picked up. At that point you're locked in on the end-position, unless you're unable to fit, in which case the ship is placed back at its start and you're able to slide & flip the template again.

Once the template is down, you have to use that side and orientation. Same as for decloaking Echo, for which there's already precedent.

I play it as: choose side plus orientation. If you can complete a barrel roll that way you have to. If you can't you can choose a new action. It can be the a barrel roll to the same side with the other orientation. This may not be explicit in the rules but otherwise you could select a barrel roll in one direction but end up with a facing 90 degrees off what you wanted.

Yep.

Thanks everyone, That is what I thought. Just wanted Clarification.

Does it state that anywhere for echo? I want to add that to my FAQ I take to tournaments.
