Casual Imperial List

By CasoPrime, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So i was playing around making lists to play with tomorrow night. Now this one i cant as I dont have any strikers yet, but it seems like a lot of fun.

TIE Punisher: · "Deathrain" (26)
· Bomblet Generator (3)
Advanced Sensors (3)
Lightweight Frame (2)
TIE/fo Fighter: · "Omega Leader" (21)
Juke (2)
Comm Relay (3)
TIE Striker: Scarif Defender (18)
Lightweight Frame (2)
Adaptive ailerons (0)

Adaptive ailerons (0)
-- TOTAL ------- 100p. --

What do you think?

Warning: opinionated rant ahead.

I cannot endorse your selection of a Punisher. The pilot cards from my Twin Ion Mk II expansion aren’t even allowed in my card binder, and the model is in a shameful place segregated from all my worthy Imperial ships.

The rest of your list does look fun. I would rather play those ships with a 34-point handicap than play them with a Punisher.

Fly a real TIE Bomber;’load up Deathfire with some mines. Use the rest of your points to promote your Scarif Defenders to Black Squadron with EPT’s.

As this is a fun, casual list you’ll have a ball with that Deathrain build.

Hmmm... the bomber with one bomb slot. Even if you take Extra Munitions that’s a mere two bombs. You can hardly “load up” Deathfire with bombs. (Still he’s a fun, effective pilot  )

The TIE Bomber’s upgrade bar is one of FFG’s most egregious offenses against The Empire.

The TIE Punisher is the worst. It’s a $20 fee for Imperial Players who want their other ships to enjoy green bank maneuvers.

I cannot argue with those comments... but ironically the Bomber (and I love Bombers) do not make good bombers. Excellent ordnance carriers, excellent support with shuttle title and LWF, good generics and aces, good dial but they make mediocre bombers because they only have one bomb slot. Not that the Punisher is better due to cost but at least Deathrain is fun and different.

I can't disagree that the punisher is up there with the worst of the game's ships.

However, lightweight bomblet punisher is fun to fly. I would consider accuracy corrector in place of advanced sensors. there are so many 1 evade dice ships out there that it could still do consistent damage. I have a Deathrain build that has unguided rockets, but it's questionable.

Apparently it's just me, but I really love the Tie Punisher. For month's I was adamant that I would not be adding the Tie PBR 5 pack to my collection, but I finally broke down and bought two of them. Since then, I have been enjoying them quite a bit. Played an 80 point 3-way game with my son and a friend this weekend, and Redline put in serious work. Although I'm sure there are ways to play these pilots that are more cost efficient, I was really just trying to see how many dice I could throw on the table in one round. My little team did win the day against 2 T-70s, an A-Wing, and a couple of Brobots though.

Quickdraw

Expertise, Cluster Missiles, Fire Control Sysyems, Light Weight Frame, Special Ops Training.

Redline

Extra Munitions, Cluster Missiles, Concussion Missiles, Fire Control System, Guidance Chips.

Honestly one of my favorite Imperial ships is LWF, Crackshot, Unguided Tomax. Its 29 points, so a bit more than OL, you can toss the LWF if you need the points, but without other ordanance Tomax is just going to be focusing anyways. Half the time you don't even need to spend the focus on UGR and it turns off range three bonus while giving you pretty much an extra attack dice for the game. With crackshot every round you don't have to worry about dealing massive damage at the start of the game. Keep him around for more than a few rounds and your solid.

Since I dont have strikers this is the list i flew last night. I need to work on flying the punisher to get maximum effect of the bomblet. Tomax did great at pushing through damage and Ryad is almost impossible to hit with stealth device. Played two matches with 2 wins last night, lost Tomax in my second game against the new and improved K fighters.

It was a blast to fly.

@CasoPrime Glad you enjoyed Tomax! With that setup he's super consistent for only being 29 points, and if you can proivde other targets that are more tempting than he gets ignored and just flies around blowing stuff up!!

List 2. I'm buying a striker and borrowing a couple for my next casual night.

TIE Striker: · "Pure Sabacc" (22)
· Swarm Leader (3)
Lightweight Frame (2)
Adaptive ailerons (0)
TIE Bomber: Gamma Squadron Veteran (19)
Draw Their Fire (1)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE Shuttle (0)
Fleet Officer (3)
TIE Striker: Black Squadron Scout (20)
Lightweight Frame (2)
Adaptive ailerons (0)
TIE Striker: Black Squadron Scout (20)
Lightweight Frame (2)
Adaptive ailerons (0)

Missing a second crew and two epts. HELP!? lol

I would switch Gamma squad vet for tomax, draw their fire with adrenaline rush, and replace swarm leader with determination on all three strikers.

But thats just my two cents

I ran an Infinite Deathrain list a couple nights ago against a DengarNym and was actually pretty disappointed with the Bomblet Generator. Without any Imperial "bomb-boosters", the Omelette Generator ends up being fairly balanced for the cost. But I only got 4 off by the time I got shot down, but my opponent clearly noted that Deathrain was a much more dangerous presence than he expected her to be, and that was with Vader and TLT Kestal on the board.

I didn't get a single shot off with Deathrain, but she solo-stripped all of Dengar's shields. I think next time I'll be bringing a modified version. Not Infinite Bombs, but more dangerous ones.

  • Deathrain (26) [34]
    • Collision Detector (0)
    • Extra Munitions (2)
    • Ion Bombs (2)
    • Seismic Charges (2)
    • Lightweight Frame (2)

I didn't mind Advanced Sensors on Deathrain, but I've found through some other practice that it's nicer to be able to Barrel Roll onto a rock after a bomb drop, then fly away than boost into a bomb drop. This way, you're still free to place asteroids tightly for some good Imperial flying to accommodate Deathrain's more fragile wingmen.
