SYSTEM OPENS ANNOUNCED

By Timathius, in X-Wing

Yeah it's all the alt art available (except last years dual-sided cards in the Hangar Bay) for just playing games, plus the Damage deck and the target lock token.

BUT, I will say with some venues charging extra (which is still weird to me) for the Hangar Bays, it would irk me more if I was at one of those.

Based on previous years in the UK, all the games were included in 1 ticket.

Well, no turning back now. Just registered for Adepticon System Open, the main event, hanger bay, and hyperspace qual.

Now to get this filthy casual whipped into shape. Next few months will be figuring out what I'm flying and how to beat the meta...

...and even if I fail, I still am flying xwing all weekend long and getting the swag i want to take home most anyway!

Yes. how dare I have too much of a life and a career to pay for this hobby. That I don't have time to waste on podcasts. -_-

A life and a career sound awful.

Yeah, usually it's one or the other.

The three day events are charging extra as people can sign up to play in a Hangar Bay or the Hyperspace Qualifier without playing in the System Open itself i.e. Adepticon has Hangar Bays, a Hyperspace Qualifier and X-Wing Space Race events on the Friday, and the System Open starts on the Saturday.

Now, that said, this year's UK Nationals charged for Hangar Bays, however there was a different prize structure in place where you earned tickets by winning matches, and could use them to pick up a lot of different prizes, not just those announced for the event.

Yeah I didn't make it to nationals, so didn't see that. And actually being able to do some and not others is pretty cool.

Just finished registering for the system open at Adepticon. It will be my third year attending this event and I can't wait. The prize support for this event keeps getting better.

BTW, anyone else dislike the new format which requires you to go 2-1 at least in stage one or you will not make it to stage 2. Now getting into the cut only with a 5-1 seems fine, but getting relegated to the hangar bay tournament just after 3 games seems a little depressing. :)

It doesn't bother me simply because if you don't go 2-1 on stage 1, you can't make it to the cut anyway, And as other people have said, there's plenty of side event stuff to play, so it's not like you're done playing x-wing for the weekend if you don't make stage 2.

Awesome. I guess Australia doesn't exist, despite our large player base per city. It's a pity, because those alt-art cards and other prizes are possibly the best I've seen.

I think the new structure is going to have more of a luck-of-the-draw in the first three rounds - although I've never had a problem beating 2/3 of my first few opponents, it's always possible to go up against 2 mavericks in a row and get eliminated. On the other hand, I think it's great for providing those that don't make it opportunities for higher-level play in hangar bays and other mini-events, rather than grinding through the game you know won't get you anything other than participation prizes.

Hold your horses Astech, there's still 5 non-Europe System Open locations to be announced.

Well I hope they announce them with more than 4 days notice, because I for one will sure as high explosive double hockey sticks will be travelling wherever to compete if they're in Australia!

One System Open in Krakow (Poland, Europe) has been added to the list, if you didn't noticed ;)

UK Open tickets on sale right now.

The Admiral tickets (which give the mat) are already sold out :'(

I had to get a normal ticket :(

Yeah crazy how fast they went. I grabbed one within a minute as I was sat pressing F5 lol

I mean I can understand that maybe they have a limited supply, but they really should offer everyone the option to get the mat or not when they purchase the ticket. Isn't 4 months long enough to make these things?

Seeing as there's 408 total tickets to start with, with the option to add MORE if needed down the road JUST for the UK one, that many mats (or the option for that many) would be crazy.

Also, as we've had an Open already, I think they've all been made and are sitting waiting for each System's tickets to go on sale.

PLUS, for the second year running the point of the mats really is that they are a cool limited edition thing, like the prizes.

Yeha but it means some people, like me, who wanted a mat and was prepared to spend 60quid on one goes without....

It's unfortunately the nature of anything like this. Make something limited and it will sell fast. I missed out last year both times they put the mats up, so this year I made sure.

And to be fair, based on how fast the regular mats seem to go out of stock here in the UK, I doubt they could make that many of this one lol I don't think they send 400+ to the UK as regular stock! :P

UK tickets sold out already, around 400 places.

Wow. Spain not getting one must mean we're in for an invasion.

At least you guys across the pond know if you're getting one or not. Adepticon tickets say "we will contact those with tickets after 1/1 with an option of buying the mat." No idea how they will go about this and in what order they are contacted. I was registered within 10-15 minutes of go live, so I hope I'm far enough up in the queue to get that option before they are sold out.

Yeah it defo seems that Opens run inside/along with other events are getting the short end of the stick. Hopefully everything works out ok.

Yeah, there's been a lot of European players coming over to the UK for major events over the last few years - which is absolutely fantastic - but I imagine the confirmation that Spain are not getting a System Open has definitely contributed to the rush on tickets. Certainly the 2017 and 2016 Opens didn't sell anywhere near as quickly.

It's interesting that the tickets for the UK, Germany and Italy were put on sale with three European Opens still to be announced. I wonder if the tickets would have sold that quickly if we knew the locations and venues of the remaining events?

Latest from Alex Watkins on Facebook - he's in Europe this weekend, but will update next week. Expressed surprise at the speed of sales, but has contingency plans. Fingers crossed!

Yeah when he first said about there being around 408 tickets going on sale, he said there was space for more if they felt it was needed. Clearly it's needed!

This will be my 3rd UK Open and I'm feeling more and more lucky each that I got a ticket at all.

Got my ticket for my first open. Pretty excited :)
