Does it matter? It's nice artwork.
Every games company does it, and they've produced new artwork for a bunch of things including the templates.
It looks cool, what difference does it make that it's not novel?

TBF that's standard, they reuse a lot of the art assets across all their games within that IP.
This is basically the best alt art that we've gotten since the Worlds '16 Inquisitor and before that it was the awesome movie stills like Wedge, Vader, Mauler, Jendon, and so on from 2013-14. Count your blessings, at least it's not the crappy paint art like Tycho, Dash, Hera, or...Red Ace

While there are still many locations to reveal, there's an alarming rumour coming out on the spanish community about no Open in Spain (aka the second largest '17 Open).
And although I *really* hope they are wrong, I've never had a reason to not believe these unnoficial sources.
If this becomes true, WTH FFG/Asmodee?

Patience. Wait til all the dates and locations are announced THEN make a stink if it actually is a problem.
I'll never be more glad of eating crow if this comes untrue and, as I say, I also hope it will be the case. But the strenght of this rumour is also something that makes me worry, and thus that post. Otherwise I would've just ignored it as nonsense.

I'm definitely interested in the Birmingham one, and might possibly go to the Bologna one (as I live in Malta and it's pretty close). I'm trying to convince a few local players to come with me so that we can come up as a small group of people.

Don't panic. The article states there's going to be 15 events worldwide - twice as many as last year - and only 7 have been announced so far including the Coruscant Invitational. With 8 still to be announced and events running through until June, I don't think you have anything to worry about.
Hopefully there'll be at least one in Australasia this year as well, for our friends on the other side of the globe.

That would've been so epic and nice.
The planet is dope. but Concord Dawn would have been cooler and still fitting. And I wish they would have shown the full planet instead of making it a default edge piece.
Now using the plane starfield is cool. I have myself a mat with a really cool nebula, but the general star fields are for sure fitting easy to any FFG mat and this is a strength of the ffg playmats.

Its novel because its all exactly the same artwork for each. Usually they mix up where the sources come from

I'm getting the mat. I actually still don't own one (have a board I painted and usually play elsewhere with supplied mats) and I regretted not getting the Yavin one last year, so I'm all in for this.
Also prefer less stuff on a mat too, so this is a nice go-between for me. Some cool accents and a planet, but not Starkiller base or whatever taking up the whole mat.

How and were did you do that? I can't find any registration or ticket info for the event. Not even on the website for the con that it's being held at.

Not to mention that it won't lock you into a specific time period like battle of Yavin, Endor, Hoth, or Starkiller Base.

FYI there will be a Hyperspace Qualifier, open to everyone, on Sunday at the same time as round 3 of the System Open.
