Future of huge ships and new huge ship maneuvers.

By Marinealver, in X-Wing

The Defender light Corvette is more inline with the GR-75 since the Defender is 4 metres longer.

The Defender is also from Knights of the Old Republic so I cannot see Disney allowing it but FFG could do something similar, as someone pointed out earlier it would be nice to have another support ship for each faction.

Barrel. Roll.

Honestly, if you fluffed it right (like an energy expenditure like acesanddelights suggests) I don't think there's necessarily a huge detriment to a Huge ship being able to move laterally. There's certainly no fluff reason why a ship with the right thrust configuration cannot drift to either side for attitude adjustment. It's just not going to be easy shifting that mass on a non-thrust axis.

Yes, I was thinking of thrusters, not a barrel roll. :)

Also it might be interesting to throw in some squadron rules for small ships. Have them move, shoot together, and same action while in formation. Speed things up a little, but also maybe with some drawbacks like no EPT's while in formation or something. Just making it up as I type.

Squadron card - double sided; "Stay in Formation" during the end phase you may discard this card to break formation and move your ships independently during the movement phase, etc...blah, blah. 0pts.

I would really dig some love for Huge Ships and Epic. And yes, the dial is extremely limited.

As in Armada, stopping should come at a high cost. Zero energy gain should be the least; given that Huge Ships can't defend anyway, maybe disallow taking actions?

I fear the double bank will make ramming other ships way too efficient.

Yeah it is a big maneuver even at speed 1 but that is why I think it should be a low energy gain maneuver. So using a doubile bank and then trying to go 4 straight will not give you much energy for those all so important recovery actions after the ram. However I also been at odds with ramming rules for huge ships and think that ships should get a single green die saving roll. Now there could be things done that deny that roll so ramming smaller ships won't be completely mute as a tactic but again with huge ships being at such a disadvantage at the likes of TLT it is the best attack huge ships have unfortunately. Hopefully the next Scum Huge ship brings weapons that remedies that.

Lateral movement could be a thing, however with so much resistance to the reverse and stop maneuvers I don't see how it could be added to a huge ships dial and what the energy gain would be rated at. I know why people are against anything other than forward movement, this is supposed to be in space and everything is moving forward. The best abstraction done is with keeping slow forward straight movement the thing that gives you the most energy. As for ships that tend to "park" well again with the inertia any ship that can do lateral or revers movement should have very slow forward speed.

Imagine it as an action for that Huge Ship. You put a 4-straight to the aft base so that it closes with the base, and then slide the Huge Ship laterally along the remaining 2-straight. Something like that.

That is still quite a bit of movement. Also I don't think reposistioning actions fit as well with ship movement. Maybe an engine burn which adds a 1 straight after a move but that is about as far as I think you could push it without having near decloak levels of movement. Though that is a good question. How would you cloak a huge ship? Heck we don't even have rules for cloaking a large ship.

You could do it as a 3-straight, so you basically laterally move 1-straight.

I still think just moving it over the huge ship movement template without the angle is the best, but again as a maneuver not as an action since the ship will already have a maneuver. The only action I can think of is simply a 1 straight as a cargo upgrade.

Here's something which strikes me: they could just print a new Epic Maneuver template. I mean, every Epic ship includes their own template, so logistically it wouldn't be impractical to include somethign with a different shape. I didn't really like the idea of 4-banks or 6-straight some folks kicked around for the larger box for the TIE silencer, but I think it'd probably be fine in Epic.
