A Different Sort of Thread

By Felswrath, in Star Wars: Armada

There are a multitude, probably more than can be counted, of threads about what ships people want to come to the game. They usually all end the same way: Super Star Destroyers, Wingless Liberty, Vindicator SD, Corellian Gunship, etc. So lets turn the tables! I'm going to ask the exact opposite: What ship do you wish had never been produced by FFG?

I am not a competitive player, so for me appearance is huge! While it makes itself into almost all of my fleets (mainly due to a small collection), I hate the Assault Frigate mk II. It is a ship that had almost no appearances in EU, so no points there. It looks like a potato, or 'Space whale' as my opponent often calls it. The Rebel mindset is typically Hit and Run, so when I think Rebel ships, I think slim, sleek ships, not lumbering starches! Had FFG gone with the AF mk I (one of my favorite Rebel ships), I would have been more than happy, but Gosh do I hate the Space Whale!

For me actually it's the opposite. I prefer the MKII over the MKI.

I like all the models. Can't think of one that I'd rather not have.

Vindicator.

Why? Because I enjoying triggering people =)

I want all the ships from the Rebellion.

I agree with the AF MKII when it comes to looks. I do like the capabilities of the ship, I just wish they had went with the MKI.

Pelta, I'm just not a fan of it's asthetic. Conversely I will defend to the hilt the AFMK2 I love how it looks, it has grown on me like a tumor. I love it

Pelta and the Quasar.

Pelta is just boring to look at. Quasar is a giant, thin triangle.

I love the Arq though. It feels very Imperial without going "bigger is better".

Personally I would like if Armada would nothing to do with the Disneyverse.

SSD, i hope that **** never comes out and FFG/SW fanboys continue to conspiracy theory the **** out of that ship. "FFG made it but then the cargo boat was abducted by aliens and now they don't want to invest that much again because they're afraid it'll happen twice...plus piett was on it"

The interdictor combat refit, because there is nothing it is better at that justifies taking it over the suppression refit. It’s a trap!

The interdictor, as its style looks out of place compared to the other imperial ships. It looks more first order imho. Also there already used to be 2 interdictor-like ships which have been supplanted by this version.

The quasar because they gave it to the wrong side, it should be a rebel ship with the Ton-Falk being the imperial carrier.

The Raider, as I don't like the design with the Tie-fighter solar panels. And there already were a lot of imperial small ship designs, so why make yet another one?

The AF mk II, as it is a bad design being so out of proportion. The assault frigate mkI on the other hand is one of my favorite ship designs.

Also not a terrible fan of gozanti's.

Would you also ask which of my fingers I would hope not to be at my hand? I'm the mother of my fleet. I love all my Armada ships! (And I'm soo glad, that there are more than five per side!) :)

This one at least we can blame X Wing for. The intent was to have a ship in a certain scale , but all applicable ones (carrack, lancer) were deemed too large in scale. So the raider was made for them by FFG with LFLs blessing... It then transitioned to Armada to strengthen its “brand”. Which probably lead to it’s useage in Battlefront II...

Inter dictor, I likebh design ethos.

I mean, at this point, the VSD is like 20 years old, and the ISD is like 10-15...

The dictor is brand new just before ANH... So of course it looks newer.. That makes sense to me ?

Easy one for me. Raider. I hate everything about it. It tries to be a Corvette, a missile boat and a flack boat at the same time. It is good at none of them, and supplants EU ships that were. In those 3 slots we could have had the Bayonet, the Lancer and the Broadside, but now we don't because FFG's home brewed turd is sucking up all three slots.

I hate that Raider!

Demolisher. The ship looks fine, I just hate it and it's my white whale.

Assault Frigate MK II is an easy target for this thread and I have to agree but it is the Rebels only medium ship... I'm not a big fan of the Pelta yet, maybe when Concentrate (Forward) Firepower comes out it will become more useful. It isn't my favorite but I like the Raider, for Imperials I would have to say the Victory even though it came in the base set. It's maneuverability sucks, I know they have tried to make it more useful but once you put Disposable Capacitors, and Nav Team on it or pigeonhole yourself into using Jerjerod is it really worth the cost?

Cr90s.

In what way are these better than Nebulons? Yet everyone seems to be misguided.

Cheaper, more manouverable, better defense tokens (for kiting), less downside to double arcing, faster... there are a plethora of reasons...

ultimately it comes down to playstyle though. I️ know a few people that can make the nebulon really shine (without yavaris), but for me personally I’d almost always rather have the cr90+ points.

Unless I️ have yavaris, in which case the nebulon I️s required lol

In response to the op, I️ can’t stand the look of the space whale.... although I️ did see one orca paint job on one once that was just killer

the AF Mk II, that ship just seems "Wrong" to me.

I don't like the solar panels on the Raider class and I agree that they try to be a Jack of all trades and ended up a master of none.

FFG should either release new mission specific type ( along the lines of the ISD refits) or give us the Lancer, Broadside, etc...(preferred) to meet our needs.

Flotillas. Not aesthetics, I just dislike what they did to the game.

At first I was very much an old-fart grump. If I didn't have a toy of it growing up, or if it didn't exist in the old Xwing/Tie Fighter games, I didn't want to see it! It didn't feel like "real" Star Wars to me.

So the AFII looked super wonky when it first came into our store. But it's grown on me now. I think I'd still prefer the Mk1 that looked like a Neb with two dangles instead.

Flotillas feel weird. I really think they should have been a squadron or something instead. It feels kinda cheesy using them to game the activation system. I also still think big ships should be able to slap them out of the way if they land on 'em.

My feelings are definitely not as strong as some of the others in this thread, but I’ll add one.

If it was up to me, I would have taken all of the generics out of the Rogues and Villains pack.

Only one Falcon on the table please, and only one Slave 1, Outrider, and etc.

Except that’s exactly what these unique units were, heavily modified versions of generic craft. The Falcon and Outrider were from the YT frieghterline, and the firespray was a police patrol craft that Jango had gotten a hold of and tweaked to his specifications

Rebels: Another vote for the Assault Frigate based on aesthetics. It reminds me of a really big Rippersnapper Terrorcon Decepticon toy.

Empire: Another vote for the Raider. I've never flown it, so it might be a great ship, but the fact that it was invented by FFG and specifically for X-Wing irks me. It's not a REAL Star Wars ship that actually existed like the other ones!

Exactly. Most of the generic ship don’t by even have guns and move like bricks.
