Expansion Petition

By abraxus_smith, in Battlestar Galactica

I wouldn't mind seeing an expansion consisting of just a few cards and maybe even revised characters (particularly Saul Tigh and the more religious Baltar), with a couple of new characters too (Gaeta and Anders or something).

One concern I have about possibly introducing all these new characters is what'll happen with the lines of succession. Unless they deviate from their current approach, things will get pretty weird when, for example, Tory is higher in the presidential LoS than Lee (our credulity is already sort of being strained in that regard with Helo and Ellen, but whatever).

Which is not to say that I don't completely want every character ever to be included in the expansion(s) (maybe not Boxey)

Caprica the Board Game I can't imagine to be any fun really, can you imagine what the game would be like?

No, I can't. But I could not imagine the BSG board game before I saw it, so that is no big deal.

Oh, and yes: I want another expansion. Just sell me an envelope containing a big assortment of the yet unused characters and I will be happy. Nothing to fancy, just add some more variety.

I'd love to see a third one (despite we still don't have the expansion). There are a lot of characters still to use, like Anders, Gaeta, Troy and maybe Cally as support. There could be the rebel Baseship and maybe special cards for the final five. I had some ideas, but I don't think I'll bore everyone. Yeah, I would like to see an expansion that uses the rest of the show.

I would love to see 1 more expansion with an Earth end game added, preferably with a new mechanic to simulate the final Five. You could then move New Caprica as written to space 4 to coincide with the Sleeper Phase.

It should include 1 more character of each type and the last 3 Cylon Leaders, and more cards etc.

That would really round out the game.

While I'd be OK with a cards only expansion with more characters (preferably as many as they can) and some new crises, skills and reveals; I REALLY HOPE that they give us a ship to replace pegasuslike the rebel cylon basestar! THAT would be awesome.

New expansion would be sick!

The best thing about the base game and expansion is how well they weave together good gameplay with a strong narrative that follows the actual show so I'd love to see two more expansions, one for each of the major turning points in the story. that is the big cliffhangers which mark the end of one season and the start of the other. Sooooo.....

!!Spoiler Alert!!

If the next expansion focused on all the stuff following the occupation then you'd be looking at the temple of the five, the eye of jupiter and the cylon's sickness. The lionhead nebula could serve as the Kobol like halfway point and instead of a New Caprica phase the end game could focus on the revelation of the final five. Exactly how that would work I don't know as your looking at four human players at the end of tthe game max. What some people are saying about not needing any more rules in addition to Pegasus is true, but maybe alternate rules? Like the small Arkham expansions which are great as individual additions but crazy things up a bit to much if you use more than one at a time.

Good Extra Characters might be:

Military Leader: Gaeta, Political Leader: Tory or (because he's cheeky), Pilot: Anders or Hot Dog, Support: Cally, Cylon Leader: D'Anna

Then it'd be cool to see a final expansion about the journey to earth and the cylon civil war, a game where it's not cylons versus humans but rather those who want to unite versus those who vote for total annihilation.

Good Extra Characters might be:

Cylon versions of the final five, Cylon leader version of "bat-sh**-crazy" Boomer, Political Leader: Romo Lampkin or revised. Military Leader: Hoshi, Pilot/Support: Ceelix, Pilot: Athena

Sorry for the huge pst but the idea of more BSG is just so exciting, it'd be great to see an add on for strange eons so could just custom up an expansion. Not as good as whatever awesome release FF might have in the pipeline but it'd be a nice stop gap.

There will be (2) expansions, i'm really sure.

take a look at all mechanics, cards, etc. which appeared until now. the original game was mostly (about 98%) mini series and season 1.

pegasus expansion was mostly season 2. so there are still 2 seasons left.....and ffg is known for bringing out expansions ;).

And, of course, i want to see Sherman Cottle and sexy Tory Foster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One idea for the future: the possibilities for revealed cylons to concentrate on certain win situations are limited. what about a new card type for the cylons, comparable with the quorum deck for the human president. i woulnd't say that only ;e.g., the cylon leader can use this cards, but just the possibilities to disrupt the humans more.... and i think, the advantage of a new card deck would be, that in contrast to other/more skill cards/skill cards rules for the cylons, that you would have less balance problems with skill checks....

.....................hmmmmm, just an idea..........

I really do hope FFG has an expansion in the pipes for this one. My gaming crew just got it last week and we have found it to quite addictive and insane fun, pushing out some old favorites like TI and AH just to play Galactica over and over this weekend :)

I have yet to even play the first expansion though....

I'd really like a new expansion that puts more pressure on the humans; like pegasus, but for cylons.

An all Cylon stand alone game might be cool, with two different factions of Cylons.

Ooh... dual factions sound fun.

Ideas from playing 4 times this weekend. Cylon suicide bomb cylon card (loyalty) If on a battlestar destroy the location that you are in when you reveal. Must be a location that has a damage tile. Extra agenda cards for the cylon. With just 6 for each it's easy to eliminate possiblities until you find which one they have. Switching which agenda you can have for a cylon. Maybe have a cylon agenda until you get to new caprica and then a new one after you get there. The obvious of having more characters.

Just had an idea last night. Would need a reworking of a few things, but if the game started on new caprica and then went out to space it would be a continuation of the story and add to the current game instead of taking away from it. Have a few ideas more, but they are a bit rough and I'm not sure if I want to post them at the moment.

Man oh man oh man do I want another expansion.

More BSG gets my vote. :)

i want mr Gaeta!! does that count as a vote

Ok. Having seen the whole tv series now I have the following idea. Pretty much. Skip starting on new caprica like I said earlier. Too many issues with that. Would have to completely change new caprica, at which point why not do something different. Start just after the fleet left new caprica. Would need a new crisis deck is the biggest issue. Pegasus would have to be destroyed so as to follow the plot line. The sleeper phase would be triggered by the cylon civil war with the finding of the new allies. The end would be at the cylon outpost. There would be new loyalty cards. Switching cylons to human, humans to cylons. New agendas for cylons.

Or you could even start with the humans having the base ship as locations to move to and have arriving at earth be the sleeper phase. The game would end by successfully leaving the cylon base and reaching the end of the journey. The fight from the end of the series would be represented by its own board as would the rebel base ship.

Extra heavy raider minis for the cylons who would have pilot tokens. Extra human characters and cylon ones. Some of the new addtiions could be used with the regular base game and pegasus expansion. The characters and the agendas. The crisis cards would be for the new one. You would have to leave out the old crisis deck. The parts after new caprica just have a different feel to them than the start of the series. Maybe even have a way of playing an extended game. Reset some of the resources after completing a regular game of going to new caprica. Then play a second game (more or less) with the new expansion.

I just want to say I really like your ideas and think it could be awesome to do all that, but that said I personally don't think it makes sense as an expansion. What you're suggesting involves replacing a lot of old elements from the core game and the more you do that, the more you're basically just making a new board game. That's the tough part about expansions, they need to be able to expand upon the original so you can play with everything at once (like Arkham Horror). I think any kind of expansion for BSG will be tough for FFG to figure out.

This next part is unrelated to the above quote, it's just my own thoughts on the matter: sure they could just create new character sheets, skill cards and crisis cards, but I want something more than that. I don't want my favorite game to get bogged down by character sheets of irrelevant tertiary characters from the series. I think for those who have the need to play as those characters, they can just go to any fan-made set and download sheets. Interesting new game mechanics are what I want in any potential expansions. Ways to make the game more interesting and different. Something like what Cities and Knights did for Settlers of Catan. A game changer, that's what we need. Literally :)

Exactly! That's a really cool idea and I love it. To be honest, most fan-made mods for board games turn me off for reasons I can't fully describe. In the case of BSG, maybe I just see it as a betrayal of the game or because I have mixed feelings about seasons 3, 4, Razor and The Plan and I personally hate the idea of playing as the secondary and tertiary characters in the show, most of whom I grew to dislike with some zeal :D

Anyway, that mod is a simple, yet innovative way to spice up the end of the game. Well done sir! The idea of completing a series of crisis cards like this to achieve a visible long-term goal is great. New Caprica is sort of like that, but it still doesn't quite pack the same punch as blowing up a cylon ship and getting some payback!

The human characters aren't as important as the other parts. The last parts of the series had a different feel than the first parts of the series. That's why what I'm thinking of would be different than the base game and the pegasus expansion. The show was different so the game should reflect that. The end fights could be similar to the player made board you posted. The new crisis deck would be in part simply because the pegasus would be gone and you would face different problems. Maybe just remove the attack crisis cards from the pegasus expansion. The issue most of my gaming groups wants to fix right now is the revealed cylon leader/sympathiser agendas and how they work. The cylon civil war was a large turn in the series and would have to be reflected somehow. Changing loyalties of the cylons would reflect that.

I wrote to the press department making a request that Fantasy Flight please make an announcement as to whether there will be another expansion or not, so the BSG gaming community would know to bother waiting or start making "home-grown" expansions....

this is their reply....

While I understand your anxiousness regarding whether or not there will b another BSG expansion, it is generally FFG's policy to not announce products before they are ready to go to the printer (after proofs have been approved by us). This allows for the inevitable production delays that take place.

While I cannot reveal whether or not a new expansion is in the works, I can tell you that we are very happy with the success of the original game and the "Pegasus" expansion, and we're grateful to the game's fans for making them such a success.

not sure what to make of this...but I still wish they would just tell us if it's dead or not. Its not really announcing a product, just a respectful tip of the hat to the community.

It's his coded way of saying "yes, there is another expansion in the works".

"Although I cannot revel whether there is a new expansion... the base game and first expansion have been a success"... therefore what is the logical conclusion?
