So there we were -- no sh@! -- final table at our Friday X-wing Q4 kit tournament. Me and my three Lok Revenant Missile Boats against PGS's (yes, that PGS) Fenn Rau, Thweek, Contracted Scout list.
PGS has initiative. All the ships have gotten into a range 1 scrum with one Scurrg bumped on the Scout, the other two Scurrgs only have the Scout in arc, while Thweek and Fenn have two Scurrgs in arc each. PGS's list destroys the bumped Scurrg, #3, leaving me with two ships. Here's the game state: Scurrg #1 has seven health and a R1 shot at the Scout. Scurrg #2 has two health and a R1 shot at the Scout. The Scout has five health and is Harpooned. Thweek and Fenn Rau are both range one of the other ships; both are on one health, and Thweek is Harpooned.
This is where the fun begins ...
Scurrg #1 fires range 1 at the Scout, scores Blank-Hit-Hit-Crit, no evades. The Crit is a Major Explosion (rolled Focus -- safe). Harpooned goes off; Scout falls to one health, everyone else takes one damage. Scurrg #2 is down to 1 health. Fenn dies. Thweek dies, then sets off Harpooned. Everyone takes one damage again. The Scout dies, and Scurrg #2 dies, leaving Scurrg #1 the last ship flying.
One shot ... four kills ... ALL VICTORY!
More fun than a barrel of dead man's switches. PGS: "It's so funny, I'm not even mad!"
The lesson, boys and girls, is discard that Harpooned condition when you get the chance. I'm wondering how the list would have gone with all Harpoons (I used Harpoons, Concussions, and Cruise Missiles on the three boats). Probably nastier ... but we would have have to decide what to do when a ship gets hit with multiple Harpoon missiles. Personally, I'm of the opinion that the condition does not stack -- you're either Harpooned or not.
