Flight-Assist Bombers

This little guy could give the Y-wing bombing capability similar to a pre-nerf Advanced SLAM K-wing.

1. Maneuver in a way that keeps enemy ships out of arc.

2. Boost or Barrel Roll to line up the target behind you.

3. Drop an Action bomb in the Perform action step.

A Gold Squadron Pilot with Flight-Assist, Extra Munitions and Cluster Mines is 25 points. 2 points more than a naked Warden. Could this be the beginning of another Rebel bombing run?

Y wings get 2 bombs, max as opposed to the 6 a k wing can carry with sabine...... and your dial is an awfully lot more locked than a slam trying to avoid in arc.

I hadn't thought of it that way.... smart thinking btw.... it might be really interesting and cool, although I doubt that for 25 it'll do as much damage as a tlt y wing... Would love to try though.

1 ship with 2 clusters and an astromech for 25 points versus 1 ship with 2 clusters, Advanced SLAM and crew (probably Sabine) for 31 points. Before the Advanced SLAM nerf, there would have been no question which was better. As things stand, the K-wing cannot bomb with Advanced SLAM, and if it uses SLAM it can’t attack. A Y-wing that uses Flight-Assist could still attack if the reposition ends with an enemy ship in arc. Surely an edge case, but a good one. The Y-wing has the same maneuvers as the K-wing available to drop a Cluster Mine, but with the advantage of being able to reposition then drop if Flight-Assist triggers. With those differences in mind, let’s compare lists:

The typical K Bombing list had 6 Clusters, 4 Seismics and Sabine on 3 ships that gave up attacking for superior bombing.

This new list would have the same number of Clusters on 3 ships that don’t get weapons disabled, and have a K-turn. That leaves 25 points for a Sabine Carrier. The new shuttle is a great option with the coordinate action for another way to get bombs on the table. Fenn Rau with Sabine still has 3 points for other upgrades. Ahsoka is another great option for a Sabine carrier. It won’t have the same level of easy mode success as pre-nerf K-wings, but I think it will be viable.

The Proximity Y died on approach. The other two killed Assajj with clusters and conners. Flight-Assist worked as intended, but the list doesn’t inspire shock and awe the way the Triple K-wing lists did before the Advanced SLAM nerf.

Ywings with ion cannon and flight assist and bombs are really nice support pieces. Love the Deathfire like ability.

Took out PTL Kylo and Upsilon list. Another was OL, ion Vessery, Nu Gunboat. Luke was arc dodging Soontir in another match.

Those bombs really make aces sweat getting too close.

I imagine the combination threat of a suddenly-deployed minefield and incoming ion cannon fire is nothing to dismiss lightly, either...
