Drokkatta is a he.

By Isnigu, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

In the German red side mission for Drokatta, he is referenced as "er". In the same way as "die letzten jedi" spoiled if it was plural or singular due to grammar, this concludes that Drokatta is male. An age old question finally answered!

Not a conclusion. It's a translation error. ;)

What do you base that on?

There is no gender in any of the English-language materials. German has gendered nouns, so the translator ended up picking one. I'm pretty certain the decision made was not confirmed from the designers.

Let's just say I have inside information that Drokkatta is meant to be gender-ambiguous but female.

The German Drokkatta can be male if you like. ;)

(Edit: If the translator is a speciest, and Wookiee is a masculine word, then 'er' would apply regardless of the gender of the Wookiee. :D )

What does this mean exactly? Is it ambiguous or not? :D

Female, but Wookiees do not make a fuss about being male or female. ;)

This is getting confusing! Drokkatta looks so male, but the EU buffs say she's female. Maybe Drokkatta is "all"?

I got the impression from the obvious intentional avoidance of all gendered pronouns in both the marketing articles and the rule book that Drokkatta was a non-binary character (neither male nor female) but FFG decided not to draw attention to it in the midst of all the anti-PC and anti-diversity backlash that has been going on especially in the gaming world.

FWIW Drokkattas wookiepedia page has her as a she.

Huh you're right.

Drokkatta was a Wookiee soldier within the Rebel Alliance that was stationed on Coruscant . A demolitions expert, her favored weapon was a modified MGL-9 which she referred to as "Boomer."

Though that page could have easily been done by one of the posters here. :P

Anyway, not really sure why we're so concerned with a fictional wookie's gender identity to begin with...

"Almost certainly bound to be designated as the "muscle" in your Rebel team, Drokkatta wades fearlessly into the beginning of any battle with the devastating MGL-9, which the Wookiee has dubbed "Boomer." "

Taken from the campaign article from FFG. In all articles the make the maximum effort to not use "her" or "his", always using its name or "the Wookie". WHY FFG? WHHHHHYYYYYY??

PS: might began to call it THE WOOKIE, just to put fear on disposable troopers.

I don't care if Drokkatta is male or female. But it is incredibly frustrating to post about the wookie when I don't know the proper pronoun. But yeah, I probably will just assume female.

After a mission recently I was a bit drunk and casually referred to Drokkata as a "she" and was instantly hit with a barrage of questions from my players. I think we're just conditioned to think that Wookies have typically masculine traits- why is why I'm all the more glad to make Drokkatta run against the grain.

I just alternate every time I refer to h— wait, which one am I on?

I'm just happy Lak Sivrak is in that dead game Star Wars LCG

It's mostly a syntax issue. Wouldn't it irk you on some level even a subconscious one if someone referred to Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker as a she?

That being said, people should really read into non-binary genders, Drokkatta doesn't necessarily need to be assigned a he or a she by the players, Drokkatta could just be Drokkatta.

And there's always "they" if not sure whether to use "he" or "she".

As the german translations are really bad overall, I wouldn't take them as a reference for anything. I live in Germany and still prefer the english rules ...

The lack of a singular non-gendered pronoun in English is a deficiency that truly irks me.

Could always use "IT".

Unless you are a knight who says . . . umm, never mind.

I just found out that the AT-DP is female. But don't ask me how...

There may not be a separate word, but they has many hundred of years of usage in its place.

I default to "Comrade" for that.

Yes, "they" is usually the English fallback, but problematic as Drokkatta is almost always going to be talked about in the context of distinguishing them from their teammates.

Kind of wish FFG had committed to the concept, going half-assed just kind of leaves everyone unsatisfied instead of just triggering some hardliners.

So, we are debating on the gender of a fictional character from a fictions species in a fictional galaxie fictionally far far away ... FFG needs to post some news about the app, the next wave, or anything else IA related as soon as possible!!!
