Imperials have a lot of unique things that you really have to nitpick to not appreciate.
Personally, these unique ships are also the only things I fly (though I won't touch certain unique things like kylo Ren because he's wedded to RAC...stupid turrets)
For example, both the x7 and TIE/d are quite unique. The x7 in particular remains a severly underappreciated powerhouse that is among the toughest ships in the game. With nym neutered and ASLAM dead, they better start coming back
The SF is unique. The aux arc isn't, but the SF named pilots are both very efficient high ps damage dealers. The firespray ain't got **** on them, and Norra is a different animal entirely being a lower part regenerator
If you want something unique "faction wide"...don't. outside of specific powerhouse combos, both flavors of astromech go largely untouched and the rebel Astros in particular are largely absolute GARBAGE.
Sure, a small percentage of stuff like unhinged/r4 and flight assist/m9g8 are very decent cards but they have no powerhouse platform to synergize with (now that jm5ks lost the slot). Currently the Astro slot might as well be r2d2, and even he doesn't see much of any play nowadays
Edited by ficklegreendiceTrouble is, Nym is not neutered, he just swaps to discardable bombs and goes merrily on his way, costing a touch more, but now able to do stress or ions in addition to his Sabine damage (provided by Miranda), both of which fong /x7 even harder than just straight damage does.
E: and I'd argue that the most common astro at the moment is probably BB8 not R2D2.

I saw a lot of triple defenders at Belgian nationals this weekend - but I don’t think they fared too well. There’s still a lot of TLT/Bombs around, I faced a list containing bombs in all but one of my games
While we were playtesting triple crack X7’s, we found that they didn’t have an easy time vs 4 Wookies or Kanan/Lohwrick, they’re just a little too slown on the damage and die surprisingly fast to focus fire (these are not unwinnable matchups btw, but not easy).
I agree that the frame of the x-7 is astoundingly good, but I’m not sure that they’re going to be the powerhouse they once were in this meta. Wish they were

We have the upcoming very unique gunboat.
Omega leader flies like no other ship.
Defenders are not matched by any other faction. Especially /ds are very unique.
Palpatine is very unique and usable. So is kylo crew. Rebel captive. So is hux. And ruthlessness is very cool.
TIE shuttles (op spec, fleet off, syst. off) are very nice supp ships.
Dont forget the gozanti in epic.
These things are true, but having some good ships or upgrades does not equal having a faction identity.
Do you think having access to a single pilot called Omega Leader is the equivalent of having Regen? Or astromechs?
I'm not saying empire is a bad faction, I'm saying ffg got no love for it, and that they are lacking in upgrade choices with nothing to compensate.
There is very few things the empire can do, that the rebels or scum can't. Otoh there are a lot of things the empire can't do, what the rebels and scum can.
Furthermore, with each wave so far, the number of things unique to the empire have decreased, usually in a way that more powerful versions were given to the other factions. For example, last year there were people claiming the Empire is the "epic action faction", which was disproved by a flying piece of wood, and then just for good measure the rebels get a better coordinate action on a cheaper chassis.
Before that people were claiming bombing was an imperial thing, and to disprove that we got the worst ship ever as a bomber, while the other factions got several crazy good bombers and upgrades over the next few waves. At this point empire is so behind in bombing, it's not even funny anymore. Competitively speaking imperial bombs don't exist.
Furthermore we are getting screwed in things like the 2nd generic aggressor. The ship has a lore of being flown by elite pilots ffs, yet some random bipedal bear creatures and some washed up pirates get an EPT sooner than imps. In the same wave, might I add. God forbid anyone would actually use that ship.
I'll keep it short on the gunboat, since I haven't played it yet, but I hope the ship's power is reflected in the pricing of it's aces, although I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't.
The empire is not bad. But from where I stand it seems ffg is being either deliberately extra careful with imps, a precaution not extended to rebels and scum, or they downright don't like them.
No matter which is it, it is not okay. I personally don't think ffg pays nearly enough attention to these forums as much as they are given credit for, but on the off chance that they are, I will not stop mentioning these issues.
I don't want my faction to be broken. I just want a leveled playing field.
Lots and lots of upgrades are just not imperial flavor, but as a counter to regen, they could probably have more 'efficiency' upgrades like improved ion engines or multiple mod fixes (like they did with royal guard interceptors).
Or even a reinforcements upgrade. We already have hounds tooth that poops out a z-95.... nobody takes it so its clearly not broken... how about an imperial crew that can call in an extra tie fighter when another dies? That would do a great job representing imperial efficiency and the war of attrition.
