News regarding a "New Trilogy" and TV-Series
Live action on streaming. I love Star Wars but I'm already paying for the Disney Channel on TV. Not paying for another service! Curious though of the setting of the TV show and new Trilogy.

Interesting development. It will be apart from the Skywalker Saga, so no real details on when/where in the timeline this will occur.
And with the acquisition of Fox on the horizon, the Empire of the Mouse are making moves that would make Grand Moff Tarkin proud.
I don't mind this new.
A new non-Skywalker trilogy? It's about time. We need some regular Joe/Jane getting mixed up in some kind of space adventure. When Star Wars first came out, as a kid I felt that I could have Jedi powers. Now we know that not everyone can be a Jedi if they train hard enough, so giving kids hope that adventure can come their way would be pretty cool (assuming that's the direction they take).
Not sure how a live action TV series will translate, but hey, Game of Thrones does it. Maybe Disney can too.
I hope the live action series is the one Lucas had started and had several seasons of scripts written and ready to go once it was economically feasible.
Edited by markcsoulWe can hope for a Black Sheep Squadron-clone Rogue Squadron series.
I thought they were going to try and redo the older ones into a TV series. But I guess this is episode X XI and XII. I might be as finished with Star Wars then as I am finished with Star Trek now, call me a fair weather fan but if it has lost the soul I'm not interested.
Maybe the Yuzzahn Vong will appear.

They explicitly say that it‘s not Episode X, XI and XII
Do you even try anymore?

About as hard as this guy.
So who wants to make a theory that the Yuzzahan Vong (oh sorry) the Zhanong Yuzz will invade the galaxy in Episode X.

Non-skywalker doesn't necessarily mean non-jedi. I'd be perfectly happy if it DOES, but I'm not sure I see disney going that route for a full trilogy.
What disney running a franchise into the ground, wow who could of predicted that?
LFL seems to be very confident in Rian Johnson. It's priomising, but then again, LFL hired Jar Jar ******* Abrams twice...
If it were me, I would do it from a merc perspective, no direct allegiance to either side, just trying to carve out a living and stay alive.
Have the main character be a citizen on a well controlled Empire planet. No food shortages, no issues with security, jobs, etc. Essentially an imperfect utopia. I would use the series to demonstrate what life is life for faithful citizens of the Empire, detail that there is still political opposition, even in these worlds, a social elite and essentially draw as many comparisons to our own world now but spread across the stars.
Opening scene would take you on a tour of the city, showing you all walks of life, advanced technologies, etc. Then as the character is on a mag train, doing the daily commute, terrorist reports are being broadcast on news channels, disruptions caused etc, really drive home the inconvenience these attacks are doing to the general population.
Then of course, for one reason or another, a event that causes our protagonist's world to collide with that of the Resistance would occur. Maybe his ID card is faulty, denying him access to the administration building that he has worked at for years, this causes concern for security. Naturally flustered, it causes a scene which generates the presence of Storm Troopers to arrive . .
Cue our main Resistance recurring character who bumps into the back of our hero, gives him the alternative solution and offers him a way out, he accepts, the Resistance attacks and a daring escape ensues.
After the chase, a different world is shown. Not one of pristine environments and well kept green gardens but one of functionality and realism. One where resources are still openly available, but at a price or for trade, a place were the social elite would never venture but the normal citizen would be well aware of. The truth behind the "dream."
Our hero, whilst not of a military background has skills and knowledge valuable to the resistance and it is this occurrence that I would build the series from. I would keep it on this one planet for awhile, trying to build the impression that actually, you don't need to leave the star system for a change of scenery. Emotional conflict and diplomatic intrigue would ensue with the near season finale being the arrival of a Star Destroyer, dwarfing the city and casting all in shadow. The resistance overextending their welcome, causing the local government to call for a more "drastic solution"
Throughout the series I would tease of a force user, but never really introduce one as a main focus, just keep THAT character out of reach, doing seemingly impossible feats, disappearing into crowds, etc but aiding or impeding our heroes throughout.
I would certainly NOT downplay the presence of Storm Troopers, they would be hyper accurate, their Armour would actually withstand small arms fire, a small team of them would easily handle the resistance in a straight up engagement. I would drill this through dialogue and make sure that when they do actually arrive on scene, you feel excited for the **** they could potentially unleash.

Out of curiosity, did that happen before?

You know they literally said it's not X XI and XII right?
Like, almost verbatim? But aight, have fun.

Well not anybody who knows it's could've, and that could of isn't and never has been grammatically acceptable or correct.

Surely you remember Aladdin 432 jaffar gets a bagel, or fox and the hound 224 fox smells something.

Aladdin and all the other classics that were desecrated (although heck, some of the series were actually pretty good) in the direct to VHS era still shift lots of merchandise and things like the Lion King even are able to be rerun in cinemas successfully. The brand of any of the Disney classics is still massively strong.
You see, the way Star Wars is handeled will be similar to Marvel. Lots of movie releases, lots of success, but through the sheer volume of content some stinkers will exist. This doesn't kill the brand, though, as a fanbase will still watch everything and then tell the general audience which ones are worth looking at.

If you're really gonna be THAT guy...
I have a lot of trust in Rian Johnson, so I have a lot of faith in the Last Jedi. Lucasfilm clearly likes what they saw with him directing it as well.
Here's hoping JGL stars in a Rian Johnson SW trilogy! Holy crap!
If that Disney streaming service has Rebels and the new live action series, and holds on to the old Disney classics for the rest of the family .... Sold.
New trilogy sounds either very good or very bad. All of the films have featured a member of the Skywalker bloodline, so this could be an interesting departure. Or it could blow up on them. I'm hoping for the former.
For the movies, I'd want to see something from the old republic - do a Jedi/sith war from long ago. For the TV series, I'd like to see something from the outer rim... Maybe a smuggling crew working independently avoiding trouble with the Imps and the criminals elements of the Galaxy... Some episodes could be centered around dealings with the Hutts, others Black Sun involvement, etc. Really capitalize on the small screen format to tell stories that would otherwise be left alone.
But I am just one lone voice. I am sure I'll end up enjoying some and or all of the new stuff. Disney won me back with Rogue One and Ep8 looks good so far.
