Built for speed

By Ramon Ostolaza, in X-Wing

We are planning a racing event, somewhat similar to the "Mario Kart" event and i was wondering how much difference would it make one kind of ship over others.
The layout includes 10 "checkpoints" that need to be touched in order to complete a lap and the gaming area is the standard 3 x 3... (maybe a 4 x 4 if there are more than 4 ships at a time)

So, initially, large base ships should have some advantage, but hey lack the steering capacity of a small base ship. also, getting ahead on the track will put you inside the firing arch of all the other ships. (there is no respawning no reloading here). The SLAM might give some advantage, but it rends your ship without the hability to fire...

So, what are your ideas on this?

I think maybe teams of 2 should make it more fun so one person could focus on fighting or clearing a path for the other.

If they all build for speed, take Advanced SLAM, its going to be less fighting and more just zipping to the finish line as quick as possible. With a team of two, one person can grab checkpoints but they still have to worry about actually getting shot etc by a ship built to kill.

If the point limit is 50, I think the following has a bit of an auto-win:

Asajj (50)
PTL
Coutntermeasures
Shadow Caster
2 x Burnout SLAM
Latts

You stress a ship each round, move at least twice as fast as a non-SLAM ship, and slightly faster than other SLAM ships, have the hull to survive a few big hits and countermeasures to deter munition shots.

Hummm, in 1 lap maybe, but if you go for the long run, 3 laps may not be enough to surrvive... with conner nets or ion bombs, you will be stopped very frequently.

I like the team idea, but instead why not just make a 2 ship list per player and play them as a team?

The thing that worries me about simply racing is that once the lead ship is past Range 3 of the next closest ship, they're practically free and clear. That's one neat thing about the the Mario-kart's mystery boxes; they can make it so others might still have a chance to catch up.

Fair point. I suppose Engine Upgrade is going to be better than Countermeasures in the long run. After that, I'm not sure what's really going to help with 3 full laps of the board. That's a long time to be fighting a lot of other ships.

Mario Kart (40)

•Wullffwarro (40) - Auzituck Gunship
Push The Limit (3), BoShek (2), •Nien Nunb (1), Engine Upgrade (4)

let those big ships touch you. Lol.

I think Ion Turrets are going to be interesting, specially on tight corners... so you may take other out of the playing area...

I was thinking on this setup:

Miranda+ ion cannon turret+extra munitions+proton torpedoes+ion pulse missiles+dash+conner net+ion bomb+experimental interface
maybe change the ion turret for TLT and experimental for Advanced SLAM

The event is going to be 60 points limit

What about BobaGator? You get a rear arc and some ability to manipulate your turns and wreck some serious face because of bombs and rear arc. If they get ahead of you, Ion them, then get way downtown.

RACING BOBA

59 points

PILOTS

Boba Fett (59)
Firespray-31 (39), Ion Pulse Missiles (3), Ion Cannon (3), Veteran Instincts (1), Navigator (3), Andrasta (0), Engine Upgrade (4), Bomblet Generator (3)
