SO recently decided to try panting my Squadrons, I had no previous experience with painting Miniatures so I discovered a local GW, and picked up some paints. Here are my results:

Nice work! Your TIE Fighters are excellent, and I especially like your red Howlrunner. The X-Wings are good, too. Try putting some 'Ardcoat on the canopies of the X-Wings. Also, I use Molotow Liquid Chrome for the domes of the droids.
Cannot wait to see more!
Nicely done! Everyone hates painting X-Wings because the sculpts are pretty rough. The only thing I'd suggest is a little work with a hobby file or knife (or sandpaper/emery board) to clean up the mold lines. Otherwise, no real suggestions... your lines and highlights will improve with practice. Nevertheless, I think you should be proud of your results, novice or no.
Nice work, especially starting off. The lighting on the photos makes it a bit difficult to give a proper assessment but it doesn’t look like you “overcoated” your models which is a common mistake that novices make. Snuffy is correct about the mold lines. I use an old X-acto knife mostly and draw the blade backwards over the mold line and rarely use the sanding technique. Remember when you wash, the model’s color will darken so if I’m going for a medium grey TIE, I start with a light sky grey color. When I’m finished, I put a coat of lacquer (usually satin but most folks do flat) to help protect the paint job from handling and bumping. Again, great start out of the gate.
Thank you all for the positive feedback! Sorry for the poor quality photos, they were taken in a rush so here are some better quality and hopefully properly embedded photos:
Here is the TIE fleet:
Here is the Howlrunner Ace:
X-Wing Squadrons:
And the unmarked X-Wings, To be marked and washed with new paints soon:
I'm waiting on a Rouges and Villains pack and plan to make a trip to Games Workshop for some new paints soon, So expect some new X-Wing markings and some Rouges and Villains soon!
Edited by AtromixAlso I haven't been priming my model, just using a base coat of either Celestra Grey or Ceramite White. I haven't had any problems but is there something further down the line that I should worry about or am I fine with just this?
I'd definitely recommend you clear-coat them, some sort or matte or satin clear sealer to lock everything together. If you're using a primer, you can get away without a clear-coat if the models will see limited handling as the primer helps the paint stick to the plastic. Without a primer or a clear-coat, you run the risk of paint chipping and rubbing off.
I forgot to say why I prefer satin. IMO, it gives the model the look/feel that it's metal. I notice a lot of modern fighters (post 2010ish), esp. stealth (i.e. high tech) have a satin sheen to them.

I have a can of grey enamel spray primer, would that work with the acrylic paints?

Can you recommend any specific sealant? What do you recommend?
ALSO I base coat with Citadel base paints, I've heard some say that that works but I'm unsure.
Edited by AtromixI brush on Vallejo varnish. I have gloss, satin and flat.
Edited by WGNF911Hi, Me again and I've got some more stuff to show! Some of the photos aren't the best quality but the camera didn't want to focus.
