Against an agility 1 target, is a synced turret shot with target lock/focus going to do more damage than a TLT with focus on both shots?

TLT with a focus for each shot has an expected damage of 1.86, Synced with just a focus is 1.88, and then Synced with a focus & TL is 2.43.

Edit: Synced turret damage was figured with the target not in arc, so no additional rerolls.

if one of the TLT shots has target lock does that improve its odds?

It pushes it up to 1.95

TLT w/ 2 focus: 1.67
TLT w/ 2 focus & TL: 1.86

Synched Turret w/ focus: 1.53
Synced Turret w/focus & TL: 2.06

    • vs 1 agility: 2.44 expected damage, 93% for 2+ damage (51% chance for 3 damage)
    • vs 2 agility: 2.06 expected damage, 77% for 2+ damage (32% chance for 3 damage)
  • TLT with F
    • vs 1 agility: 1.75 expected damage, 75% for 2 damage
  • TLT with F/TL
    • vs 1 agility: 1.86 expected damage, 86% for 2 damage
    • vs 2 agility: 1.73 expected damage, 74% for 2 damage

Careful however with the range difference! Range 3 is as large as Range 1 and Range 2 combined, so TLT has a massively larger damage footprint

Along with the averages, you also need to remember that Synched Turrets are capable of dealing crits while TLTs cannot naturally deal crits. This allows a Synched Turret damage ceiling much higher than TLT.

Yea I am wondering if pairing it with Ezra Crew on a Ghost would spike the average damage even higher.

Ezra Ghost with Synced Turret seems dicey. Ezra needs stress, and stress interferes with getting TLs. FCS can do a lot of work to getting TLs, but not always. I've read enough folks on here talking about the issues with Synced Turret Ghosts to be wary of them (although I did see a FCS/Weapons Engineer/Synced build that someone was doing well with, but it was also pre-FAQ and designed to bypass Biggs).

I will warn against crit chasing in the general case - some good notes about that here: http://stayontheleader.blogspot.ca/2017/04/rookie-mistakes-chasing-critical-hits.html . While it can be a minor benefit to some builds, it's rarely worth doing it at the expense of better mods (ex. focus in this case).

Yeah, like @theBitterFig said, the enterplay of stress and gaining target locks gain be tricky. Certainly possible on the VCX, but not without risks.

I do agree that chasing after the crit is going to lead to far more frustration than success, but it is still a factor to consider when comparing the two turrets.

Yes my experience has been that you need Weapons Engineer to make Synced Turret work on the ghost. But then its just as expensive as FCS TLT.
