Spending The Money I Saved On Wave 7 Recommendation Thread

Full disclosure, I don't drink, and have no interest in ever changing that philosophy (mostly family medical history, some issues, including the one you just assumed and one you didn't). But what the **** is a "non-alcoholic beer"? The entire reason humanity invented beer was for the alcohol (the disinfectant properties but still). Why would anyone ever invent that, let alone think the definition of beer still included it?

My understanding is the primary imbibers of non-alcoholic beer are pregnant women and ex-alcoholics who miss the taste but are determined to stay sober (and good on them, might I add!). I'm not a fan of beer in general (most other alcoholic drinks are fine), but I'm told by people who are that they genuinely like the taste and miss it with particular foods - usually greasy stuff like pizza and pub food and the like. Non-alcoholic beer gets you the taste without the alcohol*.

*It ends up having some alcohol in it but less than a cup of yogurt, so... basically for the intent of what we mean by "alcoholic drink," it's non-alcoholic even if that's not technically correct.

Congratulations to @Viktor Tanek @Snipafist and @Baltanok. Very happy for you both. My wife and I sadly lost our twin boys Sept 7th of this year, but chatting with some of the parents and expecting parents on Vassal has been an absolute life saver for me. Wish you all the best!

Fascinating. My only comment I can add to that is that by Russian standards most American beers (and a large fraction of European ones) are non-alcoholic. (No I'm not making this up.) If you want an interesting example, there is a Russian soda roughly transliterated as "kvas" that is root beer, except fermented bread instead of sassafras, and is about 1.5 proof sold there like we sell Coca-Cola or Pepsi. (Side note, it's hideous, and only really useful to hide really strong alcohol if you're an American, and if you want that I can make a different recommendation that's actually palatable.)

I'm so sorry, it's the worst feeling.

Understood, and reminds me of a risqué joke that goes like:

"How is Bud Lite like making love in a canoe?"
"They're both f***ing close to water."

Once you get past the mass-produced US beers (Coors, Miller, Bud, etc.), you'll usually get higher alcohol content and better flavors and the like. Again, I'm not big on beer, but Mrs. Snipafist insists on having me try hers in the vain hope that one day my taste buds will prefer it (I've progressed to "I guess this isn't awful," which is some improvement), and I can definitely taste the difference between good and bad beers and different elements and such. I just don't like it overall, barring lambics, which are basically amazing giant alcoholic juice boxes that somehow count as beer. Yum.

My sincere condolences, that must be horrible for you. Thank you for the kind wishes, stick in there!

So, you were going to drop $180 on Wave 7, right? Well, now you can put off that expense until Q1 2017. What should you do with this unexpected windfall in your budget?

...

Add your own suggestions below.

You could always invest in a set of Squadron Command Plates! :D They recently came down in price!

I've kind of hit my wall for games. I have a short list of games I'd like to have, Scythe, Clank! and that's about it. I am eyeing Legion, but it's 100% about the rules and business model.

I may be picking it up for Xbox one

I just got Clank! and really enjoy it!

Scythe and Clank! I can both recommend.

Scythe is more of a resource management Euro game with some Ameritrash combat elements that are used primarily as a threat to keep things in check and only occasionally do bullets start flying. Combat in that game can be decisive, but it's really difficult to be a dedicated warmongerer due to the mechanics of power spending to determine combat wins. I only mention that because people see the big stompy mechs and assume it's an area control war game and can be disappointed when they find they can't just march around stomping folks all game. It's a fine game, though, and it strikes a good balance.

Clank! is great fun and the only other things I would note is it's best with 3 or 4 (2 is doable, but eh... find a better 2 player game, shenanigans increase with more players and that's what makes Clank! fun) and the underwater expansion is quite good for giving the game some more options and diversity that don't detract from the core of what makes it fun.

Awesome! Hope to see you in space!

Guess I'll be the only one that actually buys wave 7. I'm holding out until FFG drops it.

Mrs. Snipafist (that sounds funny to me, sorry) is due this Sunday but we're both impatient to meet the little guy.

Bruh, the first time you hear your child's voice... That was the apotheosis of my life, completely serious. Better than the first time I double-side-arced an ISD with an MC30.

Good luck to both of you in delivery!

It was going to go my x-mas list for my partner and M-I-L but only one of each, unless there's some awesome upgrade card that would be good in multiples.

$180 goes a long ways towards a Sigma TC-2001 (2x teleconverter for you shutterheads out there). Either that or I'll use part of it get another of Mel's AF Mk I type IV assault frigate.

Turned in M:tg cards for store credit at an online establishment. $280 worth went towards:

Runewars pre-order (I'm the 4th of 4 armies in our group, wouldn't you know I choose the last one to come out...) - $100

5th Edition D&D books; Primary 3 books to try to convert our current 2nd edition game into modern world - $100

Last $80 was saved for wave 7 (1 of each ship) but told my daughter she could pick out a couple of games. She chose Clank! (we played it at Dragoncon this year) and Marvel Legendary. She is her father's spawn, that's the truth!

I have a PS, but how amazing would be that....Armada peeps joining to hammer an ISD (or an MC80, whatever, I am an equal opportunity trigger squeezer).

At this point I think the community might want to chip in to buy Dras a puppy or something, he seems a bit bummed that the community has become so negative. I can understand his frustration, I'm one of two people REALLY pushing for Armada in the STL area and my partner in crimes store just got shut down where he was running tournaments so that killed that half of the city .

Honestly at this point my negativity is just meant with good humor. I'm frustrated sure but in all honesty FFG isn't THAT bad, not yet. I've seen people compare them to GW and that made me openly Lol. FFG is more apathetic to this community than anything, whereas there were times GW honestly made its fan base feel like the abused sig other in the relationship. Lol I remember when they released "bundles" on their website that were actually more expensive than if you just bought all of the items(from them) individually. Not only did they not care about their community they were actively trying to take advantage of it, there should be no surprise that members of that community(cough cough including myself cough) bought stuff from third party vendors in china that were straight up ripping off their molds.

My point is that if a company mistreats its player base eventually toxic things will happen, but FFG isn't there and what some may see as people rioting in forums is just people venting their frustration about feeling overlooked. don't worry, everything gonna be all right(cheers if you get the WWZ reference).

I too have a PS, or I would so jump into CoD WWII and BF2.

I know some of us are coming across as negative, and in a way, I am. But it's not all negative.

I'm definitely taking it in stride and good humor. I don't entirely blame FFG for my lack of interest in the game lately. I genuinely feel bad that I have people wanting to learn the game and play but I'm so neutral about it. I think it's more about life in general (the lack of play time available) than the game itself. Although if you're like me and think the last wave was a dud, and you also are not thrilled half of the wave is something you've already got, there isn't much positive going to come out of having a delay in getting the product.

I too am half heartedly trying to start a family. I'm somewhere between excited and absolutely horrified to bring a child into this world. Right now, I'm ok being a pet-father of three dogs, but I know the Mrs wants kids like a decade ago (oops, sucks not having tons of school debt and jobs that barely pay enough to support yourself out of college.) I'm glad to see others involved in the same hobbies going through the process.

More LOTR or maybe Arkham Horror.

There is also the expansion for rebellion.

I'm getting battlefront 2 for xbox one. Can't wait to play the campaign especially after reading Inferno Squad. Who knows someone may come up with some Armada scenerio ideas from the game. I thought of one revolving around the starfighter assault game mode.

You have my deepest condolences as well. I can't claim to know what you're going through, but you are always welcome to reach out on here or when we are both on Vassal.

I can confirm the foulness abhorrence that kvas is. And that it is sold as soda in Russia.

Man my Lego collection has really suffered since I got into Armada.

Sadly I don't have a collection anymore, but I've been looking into mobile frame zero quite a bit.
