Spending The Money I Saved On Wave 7 Recommendation Thread

By BiggsIRL, in Star Wars: Armada

So, you were going to drop $180 on Wave 7, right? Well, now you can put off that expense until Q1 2017. What should you do with this unexpected windfall in your budget?

My suggestions:

1) Buy into L5R ($210 - 3 Cores + 6 Expansions) - It's a game that is not only supported by FFG, but they own it outright and can release new fiction and update FAQs without asking the mouse for permission. It's still new so you're getting in on the ground floor. Join the Unicorn Clan (they're the best).

2) Pandemic: Legacy Season 1 & Season 2 ($160) - If you've never played a Legacy game, you're missing out. Pandemic Seasons 1 and 2 are even better, as they are cooperative. Have you ever wanted to play a game where you rip up cards, put stickers on a board, and open small boxes containing new rules mid-way through a game? I never knew I did until I played Risk: Legacy, and Pandemic is even more fun.

3) Dark Souls The Board Game (~$120?) - Want to paint things, love the deep strategic thought that comes from Armada, and want to "Git Gud"? Dark Souls is a fun game that will leave you frustrated, angry with yourself, and angry at the world.

4) Call Of Duty WWII (XBOX Version) ($60) - Hit me up, I'm Val Helmethead on XBox Live. I hope you don't mind cursing.

Add your own suggestions below.

I retired from any other game that is not Star Wars based, so I'm spending into Legion. I think.

I’m saving up for legion but pandemic sounds pretty interesting. Maybe that could be something I invest in between now and xmas. Thanks for the suggestion, @BiggsIRL

My dudes, do Pandemic. So awesome. Legacy takes that awesomeness so much further.

Since there's no Wave VII before Christmas I'll be catching up with other game publishers' expansions. I have been picking up some expansions to Star Realms, since it's a quick-and-easy pick-up game, easy to teach new players, fast game time, requires little storage space (as it's a card game).

Man my Lego collection has really suffered since I got into Armada.

I'd recommend whole heartedly to buy some old EU books, so you can fantasize about more and bigger Mighty Imperial and filthy Rebel ships!

46 bottle of Hoegaarden, if you planned to buy two copies of both ships.

@BiggsIRL Ta11Giraffe

@BiggsIRL, will you be picking up a copy of battlefront II? I could use some squad mates on Xbox One.

I like that you use BeerEquivalent.

My like is yours, Sir!

Just started Pandemic Legacy Season 2 with my girlfriend last night. We shot through Season 1 like addicts, the new surprises at every turn just kept us wanting to play "one more time". So good...

Guess i'll use my money to add to my RPG gaming addiction. Already getting fallout the board game, and Conan has finally released, so i've got that going for me.

I probably should pick that one up too, yeah.

Honestly it's about distribution of the dollars I have, Black Friday Discounts, and Store Credit.

I think I'm going to buy into X Wing, because Gunboats. But I'm probably going to invest in Legion (at least the core) to see if I like it and if it takes off locally. But I'm in no rush to pre order Armada because... Well I can worry about finding the cash after the holidays.

Nice SSD :D

Me too

Maybe fixed?

There are a lot of good boardgames out there nowadays, hit me up and let me know what kind of games you like if you want some recommendations. I work at a boardgame store, so it's literally what I do with my free time.*

*For now, anyways. Once the missus goes into labor (any day now), it's stay-at-home-dad time for me. The last 11 years have been:

  • graduate college with MA degree
  • get a real person job to put the missus through med school
  • get out of that nightmare once she became a doctor so I could handle house stuff (hunting for, financing work, negotiations, inspections, moving, setup, maintenance) and prepare for baby
  • work a for-funsies job at FLGS when getting pregnant took longer than expected
  • Upcoming stay-at-home-dadness

Life takes you into unexpected places, but it's been a wild ride.

Well, I already had some money earmarked for the full L5R RPG, since the beta is great, so maybe I'll finally get the Neb-b expansion, along with Reb fighters 2 and the pelta...

Mrs baltanok & I had finally broken down and scheduled an appointment to discuss ivf when we found out that the first test was defective. We went from "not pregnant yet, dammit!" to 3 months pregnant in about 2 weeks.

It's been a blast, though. Exhausting, but really rewarding.

Congratulations! We're really looking forward to it, the hard part is the waiting at this point. Mrs. Snipafist (that sounds funny to me, sorry) is due this Sunday but we're both impatient to meet the little guy. The tough part is the complete instability in any kind of scheduling as you get close to the due date because babies don't care about your plans. I highly encourage you to go along for ultrasound visits and such whenever you can, it's been really neat. The first time I could feel the little guy kicking around in there (and later hiccupping, oddly enough) was really heartwarming.

Mrs. Snipafist has discovered a decent variety of good-tasting non-alcoholic beers. Not sure if Mrs. Baltanok prefers the occasional drink, but Mrs. Snipafist is fond of the occasional drink and the prospect of 9 months completely without made her despondent. The non-alcoholic beers and such aren't half-bad, actually, so they're tiding her over.

That's awesome! Congrats!

We had to deal with something called secondary infertility, that sucked. We had kid 1.0 just fine and couldn't get pregnant again for over 3 years. Toss in a miscarriage in that time and we were starting to look into adoption when we found out we were pregnant with 2.0. Kids are awesome, totally exhausting but totally worth it.

non-alcoholic beers.

Full disclosure, I don't drink, and have no interest in ever changing that philosophy (mostly family medical history, some issues, including the one you just assumed and one you didn't). But what the **** is a "non-alcoholic beer"? The entire reason humanity invented beer was for the alcohol (the disinfectant properties but still). Why would anyone ever invent that, let alone think the definition of beer still included it?

Also congrats, to both you, Mrs. Snipafist, @Baltanok, and Mrs. Baltanok. Have fun on your adventures.
