What does the Attack clarification in latest FAQ v23 mean?

By cvallinie, in Imperial Assault Campaign

Hi All,

I am looking at the FAQ v23 and on the last page there is a point for ATTACKS:

"• A figure must end its movement to perform an attack."

I have always understood and played that a hero can spend movement points to move, attack and complete move if movement points left. Based on this rule in Reference Rules, p19 - Movement:

"• Performing a move does not move the figure; it only provides movement points that may be spent during that figure’s activation. This means that a figure may use its first action to perform a move, followed by an attack, and then spend the movement points. It may even spend some movement points before the attack and then some of them after the attack."

What does this errata line mean, why was it added?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Yes, you can divide your movement points before and after attacks and actions. What the rule says is you have to end your movement, ie you need to stop in a valid space, attack, then continue moving. Some folk were trying to do attacks while in another figure's space, which is why the rule was added.

the second item is to clarify the difference between performing a move (which is gaining movement points, not moving the character) and spending movement points. If a rule refers to performing a move, it means the action of gaining movement points. Spending movement points are not an action.

Note that movement points from special actions are different and have to be spent immediately and don't get added to the movement point pool unless something says differently.

Thanks. It makes sense. Well, trying to perform an attack while on another figure's space doesn't but there are always those players!! :-)

It's for Jedi Luke's Heroic, which can be performed without spending an action.

The core rules already cover that you have to end movement to take actions (including Attack actions).
