Timing

By yujufrazer, in L5R LCG: Rules Discussion

So now that there is an actual thread for rules ill ask it in here.

I have a crap ton of questions about timing that arnt set in stone, in the RR frame work.

1.) when exactly does a conflict start? when i pick the province and ring? when i assign attackers? when my opponent assigns defenders? when the action window begins?

2.)When is a battle actually won? When the skill is counted? when the ring is claimed? when the armies are sent home?

ive seen quite a few reactions that say after this or after that or during. like hida kisada's ability says during,( i know it cannot stop reactions so it doesnt matter to much) but its still curious to know when during the frame work the conflict actually starts.

The conflict starts when it is declared (3.2) and ends when the characters return home (3.2.8). And it is won when skill values are compared (3.2.3); this is also when unopposed is determined (even if the resulting honor loss is applied in 3.2.4), because it is based on the skill count.

Note, you choose attackers, Ring and Province simultaneously. This is the "Start". Check section 3.2.1 of the timing descriptions, there is a long section on the top of page 21 of the RR describing what you choose, followed by:

Quote

Each of the above items are considered to be performed simultaneously. If any of the above cannot be completed, the conflict cannot be initiated.

right because ive also heard people say 3.2.8 but in the frame work it says at 3.3 conflict ends so thats why im confused. Idk if im just being dumb or not and under 3.2 it never states when the conflict actually started so i wanted to make sure about that one as well.

You're correct, the conflict starts at 3.2 and ends at step 3.3.

To clarify, the conflict ends after step 3.2.8 is completed. With the framework, step 3.3 initiates as soon as 3.2.8 has been completed. 3.3 only exists to formally close the conflict in the framework and return you to step 3.1.

The conflict ends at step 3.3. It's its own step. If there were any reactions to the end of a conflict, like "after a conflict ends", it would occur after 3.3.
