Vaporator for 3D printing.

By dukncuver, in Star Wars: Legion

I wasn't happy with the options I found for printing out vaporators so I made my own! I think these will look good on the table. What do you guys think?

Looks great.

I've had trouble painting 3D printed objects in the past. What material is ideal for painting after the fact?

Are you priming the model before painting?

I've tried and it just kind of beads up. Maybe I'm using a primer that works on standard minis but isnt good for 3d prints.

I just use krylon and have never had a problem with it. Sometimes the "lines" of a print will show through, especially if you use a wash. My printer is pretty low end but I am happy with the results.

i was using citadel sprays, which work fine.

On a friends recommendation i recently swapped to a hardware store flat black paint and prime can that specifies most plastics in the specs. seems to be working just as well for less than 1/3 of the cost, you just need to be a little lighter on the coverage.

This is very nice. As I just a week ago bought my very first 3d printer I had to print this!

I however had big problems assembling the vaporator tower straight and I made some modifications..

I made a hole through all the "body components" and made a couple of rods to go throught them. I also combined the three "fin" thingys on top as one. I was only able to make a huge mess of superglue and plastic with the separate ones :)

I'm still looking at the three "outside" rods, and how to fit them.. the groove on them is not of appropriate size to the connecting pieces on the body.

dukncuver, I could send the file to you to see if it's of any use to you?

What 3D printer do you use, and what material?

You can upload it to thingiverse as a remix.
