My first shot at using the quasar in a fleet. Played it the other day vs a rebel squads fleet and absolutely tore through it, and then demo raced around picking off the small ships after the enemy squads were cleared out.

Having initiative is amazing for both the squadron alpha and Demo.

When I flew it I had Valen in place of tempest but I feel having an extra bomber would help for when I run into that squadron lite fleet. I rarely run squadron heavy builds though so I’m not sure exactly how to balance aa vs anti-ship squads. Though I must say using Jendon to double tap Vader early to clear out squads (two x-wings in a single activation) and then Maarek later vs ships is a lot of fun. Anyone have any other suggestions?

I guess I like it.. only thing I’d worry about is if you lose Demo you are in trouble. Likewise if you lose the carrier you’re in trouble. I see it as not having enough threats. With a dual ISD build you only have two threats... but they’re durable threats.

I know from being on the other end that those squads are really difficult to deal with though... Rebels say no thanks when they see that lineup.

That’s kinda one I feel about it too, could be very matchup dependent... I’ve been running double ISD’s as my main wave 6 fleet and its just such a great all comers list... 4 activations with two comms nets and just enough of a fighter screen in 6 tie fighters... gah I love that list...

First though: "right, sacrifice squadrons to keep that busy, deal with demo and quasar, GTFO."

Nasty squadrons, ships not so much......

You have 1 major ship threat - Demolisher, the major threat that has been around for a while and 99% of admirals have experience facing, putting you at a disadvantage.

HOWEVER, if you can fly this well you could have an amazing run with this fleet ^_^

Ya, I think patience and timing will be key to running this fleet effectively... keeping everything at range while my squadrons clear out the enemies, and then pounce all together vs a big ship in a combined arms effort, or start picking off the small stuff individually via demo and the quasar/squads. Ozzel is actually really nice for the fleet, as I can have my quasar sit at speed one, then once the enemy gets close crank it to 3 with just a token and scoot by.

That being said I think I’d still be bummed to see a death pickle across from me those can cause so much havoc even from long range

Maybe find points for a Lambda Shuttle, that puts your Quasar in full relay with Jendon, though you do have EHB. You can then drop Boosted Comms.

hmm.... this looks suspiciously like the fleet I played against Mike a few weeks back :D

Did you have some Bothans in the room @MandalorianMoose ?

In all seriousness though, I have found a high level of success with this fleet, but have been tweaking it into competitive shape for a long time, so my finished product is a little different in the squad sector, but we are within 2-3 upgrades of our ship makeup being identical. I can at least point out the 2 biggest weaknesses that I have dealt with and maybe it will help you.

1. Ships are flimsy - No place is a good place for your admiral, this was probably the biggest single problem with this fleet. Admiral on the quasar meant I was having to disengage it to save his life and sacrifice my squad activations. Admiral on Demo and I was putting a big big target on my only source of ship damage that can't really handle much heat.

2. Squads- It is tough to find a mix in a Sloane meta that is sufficient to deal with her and not gimp the rest of the fleet. How do you propose to approach a Sloane fleet with 134 points of interceptors and an Avenger ISD? Also, Demo is an awesome one and done point and shoot weapon, but typically I am finding I end up needing 5-6 more points of damage on a large ship to finish it after his triple tap. Maarek Steele is the only squad that is reliable against ships without BCC, so how do you get that extra damage to finish off that tank MC80 before it RBD's and goes back up to full health?

If you want to talk more about this one, shoot me a pm, it's a fleet I have been playing a lot and have already taken the hard knocks with and got it pretty finely tuned (currently running a streak of 8 wins of 8pts or more to 1 4pt loss since my last round of tweaks)

You pretty much hit the nail on the head with all my fears regarding this list.... It seems like it would only have real hard time with the bigger beefier ships like you mentioned... I’ll definitly shoot you a pm soon with some other questions, thanks for responding to the thread!

Any time man

Also, we are in the FB Messenger group, (Dice house right?) so if you want a game or something I can show you what I have gotten with this fleet so far. It actually is AWESOME at killing big ships. But it took me minute to figure out how.

Yup we are locals! I have every other Friday off and that is about my best time to get in a game, but yeah, I'm Matt M in the messenger group so don't hesitate to just ask there.

*sigh* i wish there were more people in my local community who play armada.

Lol
