Protect/Supress

By Luahk, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

I have a question about how it's meant to activate at base?

Can I use it in my turn only? If so does it last until broken? Or do i perform the check to oppose theres?

Protect works like any other Force power. You take your action to make a Discipline + Protect check. If you succeed and have 2 Force pips to spend, you reduce the damage if the next hit the target takes, as long as that hit occurs before the end of your next turn.

The limitations of the basic power are that it affects one target and only one hit. But with upgrades, you can spend more pips to increase the number of targets (Magnitude), how much damage is stopped (Strength), and how many hits are blocked (with the duration upgrade, you can block every hit that every target takes until the start of your next turn).

Keep in mind that base Protect only blocks one hit no matter what, not one hit per target. If you have yourself and three buddies under Protect but don't have (or couldn't activate) the duration upgrade, if you get shot first, that spends the protection and your friends are no longer protected. With the duration upgrade, though, you can block every shot every target takes. As long as you didn't spend any dark side pips to activate the power!

And the effect only ever lasts one turn. So if you want to keep blocking, you have to keep spending your action to do it.

Suppress works similarly with the base power. With Suppress, you create a "Zone" out to short range of yourself, and choose everyone in that zone you want to have be protected. Everyone you choose gets the benefit until either 1) They move too far away from you; or 2) Your next turn starts.

However, the very first upgrade you have to purchase is the Duration upgrade, which means if you use Suppress and then immediately commit a Force die, item 2 above goes away. The effect lasts until you un-commit that die at the end of a turn, sometime in the future.

Thanks Abbs! Expect many more.

No problem :) . And feel free to call me Phee (that's my name; don't wear it out :P ); most everyone here already knows it, so there's no issue.
