One year, one release

By Green Knight, in Star Wars: Armada

I'm usually a huge FFG apologist, as I understand that this is a business and things happen. Gotta make money, gotta follow a plan, gotta approve things with the mouse, etc.

But c'mon guys.

Can somebody on twitter remind FFG that they have their own forum dedicated to Armada that they could make some kind of announcement on?

I never understood this. You have money you wish to spend on Armada. That spending is delayed for a couple of months, and so you now wish to find something else? Why must you spend it now? What's wrong with saving it?

What, are you a Communist or something? :D

I have to reward myself don't I? Surely I deserve something nice for X-mas!

Yeah, like all 6 new packs of L5R (releasing 1 / week for the next 6 weeks starting today!). A game that is alive and supported by FFG!

Sure, but I hear the sentiment expressed at all times of the year as soon as somebody has disposal income. It perplexes me.

Maybe Arkham the Card Game.

Ergh. I hate those empty ‘responses’ that say nothing. It would be better to actually say nothing.

It's actually pretty good, and cooperative.

Pandemic: Legacy Season 2 is another pro purchase.

For me it’s a bit of boredom. My group is ready for new plastic crack. We will probably invest in another game.

I so much wish I had enough time to play to actually get bored with Armada...

We play every Friday, and twice a month we play saturdays also.

Because we're hardcore prack addicts man. I know I'll simply switch suppliers rather than go through withdrawal. If FFG can't supply me with my fix then I might just find myself in a bad neighborhood doing unspeakable things for some bad GW prack just to get by.

I'll admit that i am disappointed. They need to do a better job of communications with the community at large. Still it could be worse. I'm also a RPG gamer, and FFG still isn't even close to the disappointment i've experienced with Palladium books... :shaking head:

I think @melminiatures may have what you need to get you through the day before you go switching to that Cadillac prak.

I already told him he had become my #1 supplier earlier this week :)

Too late for me. I was trapped by the citadel long ago, SAVE YOURSELF I'll hold them off!

I highly recommend his stuff. I haven't been disappointed yet.

+1

Really, can't they add just an empty excuse? Is none of them trained in producing bull***t? 'Guys, we regret to announce, but we have to delay the release of W7. We need to playtest the new ships a bit more, we would like to deliver balanced and good ships to you that you'll love. Emperor Palpatine is coming over to oversee our progress, so we will double our efforts!'

Yeah. Reminds me a little of RPG lite.

Or maybe the LotR one.

I included that in part of my reply to them on Twitter.

I was keeping out of this thread.... I mean come on, has no one read the title? One release per year? Release? There were two in the last wave.

Failure to use a correct heading invalidates this whole thread.

I know I'm risking sounding like a broken record, but I'm pretty confident that at least some portion of our loss of player base can be blamed on slow updates combined with FFG pushing other games much harder. I know for a fact that we lost a couple very dedicated players (heck, we lost one of the two Armada tournament organizers) because of Destiny and all the hype they continue to throw at that. We've lost 80%+ of our regular players over the last 6 months. I still see a lot of them in the game shops, they just aren't playing Armada.

I am doing my part, and its not an insignificant one, to keep people in here. We are stable, now and then a new player; some are more competitive than others, and for sure there are much more players not showing up in the club and tourneys, playing leisurely and privately. And some people here mind more than others, but nobody is happy and cheering FFG for their treatment of Armada. We didnt lose people to Destiny, but we might to Legion. Its FFGs good fortune that Armada players seem to be very resilient because they like the game so much, and the setting specifically. However, we had a shrinkage previously, and right now activity (not numbers...but with Legion that can be close behind quickly) is decreasing overall, I think thats fair to say. Dramatically speaking, FFG is planting the seed of another number contraction.

My point was that they watch for forum content like hawks, but can't update that forum on these mysterious circumstances that keep delaying their product.

Does it though? I mean maybe I'm not typical but I got in just last year and I feel like people will continue to pick it up as long as it's for sale. Now I could be wrong, I fully admit that so that's why I ask. If the game dies completely and is discontinued probably, but will people really stop playing/stop starting to play the game with slower updates?

Also, I have no idea how the game is being marketed or if that has changed over the years.. ie are the articles the main marketing tool for FFG or do the advertise elsewhere?

Armada nearly died entirely in California north of LA before wave 3/4 dropped. That's not hyperbole, if it weren't for 2 small dedicated groups in the San Francisco South Bay and East Bay there would be effectively no community at all. After waves 5 and 6, we sudden;y have many more small groups all over the region. That's the power of semi-regular releases, even though everyone would agree that waves 5 and 6 were fairly well spaced apart.

Optimally a release of 2-4 ships every 6-7 months or so would keep players engaged, not force a large purchase too often, and assuage most major concerns about FFG's attention to the game. the thing is, that is an optimal time assuming that FFG is being open and confident in communicating that it will be met on time . When FFG drops the ball on staying in communication, and especially when it appears the expected deadline will be missed, the community has reason for concern because this sort of silent long-term delay has come close to ending local communities before. It happened in Armada, it almost happened in the early days of X-Wing, and those of us who stayed active through both don't want to see it happen again.
