One year, one release

By Green Knight, in Star Wars: Armada

Whose the current lead designer?

And is there contact between that person and the play testers?

Knowing that is my last ditch hope that Armada hasn't been forgotten!

I think (emphasis think) it's Alex Davy. If one of us is enough of a packrat to have hung onto any of the papers that come in the expansions, particularly the last two, it should say in there.

Several things....

1. Fallout should be released this week (a game on my Christmas list), so there SHOULD be an article about it this week.

2. I'm concerned about the future of IA.

3. Lack of news on Armada is frustrating at best.

4. Legion might sell well but I'm not interested.

5. Bored of X Wing at the moment but will go back to it.

6. Disappointed at dropping BSG but I understand why. As a late adopter, the expansions are now almost impossible to buy. I'm concerned IA will head this way as well.

Michael Gernes is in charge now. Alex Davvy left Armada after the Asmodee take over, and has now popped up as the lead designer of Legion. This has led to the email strings where rules contradict themselves because the person answering the emails and answering them in person changed.

@Irokenics It is my understanding that play testers have their own forum where they discuss things with FFG, which may be Michael Gernes, or someone else who relays it to him. Based on what I gathered from these forums, wave 7 finished play testing a few months ago and was just being finalized. It is possible Legion and X-Wing forced Armada behind schedule which is why we are not getting anything this year.

I honestly think FFG bit off more than they could chew. Legion and all this X-Wing content overloaded their operations department. Possible Destiny played into that as well, but I don't think Destiny would be the same manufacturing line as Legion and X-Wing.

I see, thanks for the answers.

For me coming from Netrunner you hear about the lead designer all the time and communications from that person. Indicators that the game is still being supported.

Because in Armada we don't, i was hoping that at least the play testers were still getting contact.

This forum is here for all the people who love this game. It is a place where we all may express our happiness, desire, frustration or anger.

As long as we keep it civil as see no wrong in expressing disappointment like Green knight have done here. If we are unhappy FFG will have to know or they may never improve.

I know that these delays may not be what FFG would have wanted and there are probably many employees that are as frustrated as us. But they can’t say anything and are bound to secrecy.

something has happened to the new wave, maybe someone screwed up or some executive made a call to prioritize something else. We will probably never know. I can forgive all this. Even if someone in FFG came forward to say that it would be one more year until next wave I would accept.

But to ignore the fans who are buying and loving this game is a big mistake. I know everyone in this forum loves this game more than we maybe should, especially if we ask our wife’s or girlfriends.

I am one of you also that loves this game too much and we all have used insanely much money on this game, and we will continue to do so even if they treat us like air.

Because we love this game with all our hearts.

So let us scream out our frustration tonight. And let them hear our screams from all around the world. FFG are watching us and they know. Tomorrow we will move forward empty or not of frustration and again wait in suspense for any news.

Let’s hope this waiting is for a reason and let them surprise us.

I know I will cry of joy when the waiting is finally over, they may torture me with silence but will never break my love for this great game.

And when all this is said I do thank you FFG for making the best game ever.

Didn’t they have an explosion that wiped out a wave before? And didn’t that wave still get out faster than this?

Their PR us absolutely hopeless. If you give dates you hit them, or don't give them at all. Q4 was a pretty big target and they still missed.

Yes, things happen, but if I was a shareholder I would be demanding answers at failed deadlines. It's bad PR and means missing Christmas will now also reduce the overall large initial sales boost of the product.

And finally, they should grow a pair and put an article and a slight explanation on the website rather than just a sneaky tweet.

I'm a bit frustrated with the trickle of information and releases (hopefully we can enjoy an article this friday or the like) but at least it isn't GF9. GF9 released their expansions for Star Trek came out a full year after the base game, one having supposed to have been released at the same time as the base game while the other was supposed to come out a month or two after, and the entire time they kept lying about when they would be released...when they were willing to even respond to their customers.

Their facebook just said no armada this year, you will see it early next year.

TBH I'm gonna sell my stuff...I don't play the game anymore and it just takes up too much space and I need dough.

Oh look

May 2018 then?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :( :( (V2)

You said that before, but returned, so I have hope, but I am sorry if you truly are going. Who will carry the banner of the Venator now? Who will gratify us with pictures of the Beautiful Vessel on the Table when we are in states of despondency?* You shall be missed.

*Who's the lucky guy who will purchase it from you?

Oh look

The issue I take with this is the fact that it was announced in another social media outlet, INSTEAD OF THEIR OWN F'N FORUMS!!!!!

I was seriously debating getting into Runewars AND legion, but if they cannot support one of the two games that I feel got them where they are, I'm keeping my money until they figure out why I'm here in the first place.....

<almost seething here.....need a drink>

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed in the 2018 news - I think my partner was going to get me a set of 2 each for christmas, and they're quite bothered by this - me as well, naturally.

Nonetheless. I understand that production issues happened. Armada has been plagued with them, and frankly, I've come to accept it as a piece of reality for this game. That being said, I am more upset with the silence. I do think FFG would do well to come up with some community-oriented supplements: articles, scenarios, etc.

I've spoken before about this, but I can't help but compare most companies to CCP Games, the makers of EVE Online:

I used to play EVE Online. I don't anymore, but I still follow news about it because it's fascinating. I've really become a fan of the company that makes it: CCP. They actually hold two conventions per year in which players can come and watch panels about upcoming things, roundtables to give constructive feedback on what features have been added, and of course - party. CCP has been extremely engaged with their community to the point where I feel like I could just tweet at CCP Fozzie with a good idea and if it measures up, I could see it in game in a year - even better than I had suggested it. They're very open about what's coming and are willing to explain why they've made the decisions that they have.

CCP is my model when it comes to community and client engagement. I feel like every company, FFG included, could take notes about how CCP operates themselves in those terms. I feel like the only real engagement I have with staff is reading articles that they publish, and hearing stories about people who occasionally get semi-official rulings via email.

Speaking of which, you're selling everything as a collection, right?

Assuming you do sell.

the least they could do is provide support by updating the faq and if need be, change a few rules here and there to keep the game fresh and interesting. Until then, all I feel is disappointment. Disappointed that FFG can't hold their end of the bargain as a company.

Yup...everything. I've given up hope on getting a Venator.

Wow. I knew it was trouble the minute we didn't get news at GenCon, but I didn't imagine this...

this latest meme seems perfect for this time..

So are people really feeling that the game is stale? I understand the lack of communication and clarification on things already released, but I don't have enough time to try all the new and different fleets I can think up... and I still haven't gotten wave 6 ships yet! I have so many different ideas and things I want to try that there is really not enough time for them all. More waves and more ships just mean more things that I can't try because I haven't explored all there is with what I currently have.

I'm not sure how much you'd have to play to have this game become stale. We're playing about once a week.. sometimes we miss one.. but about that.. and I've only flown Rebel ships and there's still so much I haven't tried. We want to swap factions and try flying the other guy's ships to see how that works. It was the plan originally but we haven't even had time to do that yet. FFG needs to step up and support the people who've invested quite a bit of money in their game but let's not beg FFG to take our money faster by releasing ships I've never heard of just for the sake of releasing ships.

You have never seen Rogue One? Could have sworn the MC75 was in that one.

I dont think folks are worried about the game being stale they are worried about FFG ignoring it and it becoming stale because of that. The game is in a great state but just like other games it chase to have a path forward or convincing new folks to buy in will be impossible.

For me, the Quasar and HH missed the mark. I can't stand the giant forehead of the Quasar and how flimsy it is, and I feel like the HH is inferior to the CR90. So I just play with the upgrades and I've already explored all I want to do.

You also have to take into account the various play styles people have. I enjoy Imp Mixed MSU, so I don't have an interest in playing Imp bombers, which means I don't really care about the Quasar. I like to play Rebel bombers, which means I don't have a place for the HH. And honestly, giving players another large ship vastly increases the options because they account for more of the points. Giving me a 40 point ship does not shake up my current fleets. I simply sub out 10% of my fleet, and I consider that more of an optimization than creating a new fleet. Give me a 100 point ship, and now I have to build an entire fleet around it. Both the Kuat and Cymoon play different than the ISD I and II because they have different upgrades. That's why Wave 7 is going to be a meta shaking wave, and also why people are excited for it.
