What counters Tractor Beams & Ion?

By probot, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions to counter tractor beams and/or Ion effects? I know large base ships are resistant, but what else might help small base ships? Pilots, upgrades, and strategies/tactics welcomed!

IF you are not using large base, than you should fly away from rocks and the edge of the board. The tractor is not AS meaningful if your opponent can't tractor you on a rock.

Other than that, alpha strike the ship off the board, lol. That would certainly do it. Or high agility aces. If you can arc dodge the shot, they can't do anything.

Three things. Stay away from Rocks. Save your mods for Defense. Pew Pew Pew.

Great suggestions, thanks! There's also the factor of reduced agility with tractor beams. I think I'm going to need more defensive mods against these kinds of control lists since some of my favorite ships at the moment have 1 natural agility.

Lucky nice rolls and staying out of arc.

I don't remember where exactly I heard it, but with regard to tractors, possibly also ion, one wise thing is to make the rocks as tightly clustered as you can, and fly away from that cluster. If the rocks are fairly spread out, the chance that you're close to one go up significantly.

With Lancers, particularly Ketsu, be wary of how fast they can go, even without engine upgrades. Ketsu pull a 5 straight, which is 7 ship lengths counting the base. 7.5 is the length of a full attack range ruler. If she's pointed straight at you, from a bit out of range (say, you lined up opposite each other and you both somewhat slow-rolled the opening), she can get into your face the second turn, and possibly toss a ship onto a rock.

Also, remember you can block tractor barrel rolls with your other ships; whilst tractor tokens have a special exemption allowing them to boost or barrel roll you onto obstacles, they still can't collide you with another of your own ships.

Another option is to start using tractor beams and ion cannons. Gaining this familiarity helps you "know your enemy. "
