i have a question about modifier dice

By CushionRide, in Star Wars: Destiny

so this issue came up and im not sure I quite understand the rules on this.. when I read the rule book modifier dice with a + value can be added to a single dice result. but when I played against my friend, he told me I could not use a modifier dice when using a card such as Go for the Kill. his argument is that the card states that you can only resolve one dice. ok I get that, but the modification rules state that you may resolve a modifier with a matching result. if I could get some clarification it would be cool, cause if he is correct, (he probably is) why are the modifier dice relevant then? it would seem I would rather just have more resolution dice than using modifiers.

Any effect that says 'resolve a die' only resolves one die and modifiers cannot be added for that die.

Modifiers still have value. Typically they are higher damage sides when compared to unmodified with the same card cost. Also, modified dice make for one large source of damage, rather than more smaller sources. This helps get around characters like Dooku, and work well against shields when combined with cards like Vibro-Knife or Vibro-Ax.

This is common: confusing the Action Resolve Dice with the ability to resolve X number of dice. The Action lets you resolve any number of dice showing the symbol you choose to resolve. So that includes Modifier dice, which can only be resolved in conjunction with a non-modifier die. When you use an ability to resolve dice, you are limited by what the ability allows. "Resolve one die" means exactly that. In order to use an ability to resolve a Modifier die, the ability must allow you to resolve more than once die (resolve any number of dice, resolve X dice where X is greater than 1, etc.). Actions and abilities have many things in common, but each has their own limits and options.

So im still new, but from what I understand and from what has been posted

Resolve dice as an action resolves multiple dice of the same type, allowing modifiers to be used with standard damage faces

Resolve one die does not allow modifiers to be resolved as there's no other die to modify

Modifiers still have value, so you could Disarm people with modifiers (since it's Remove, not Resolve)

I think?

That's correct. Modifiers can also be effected by cards like Reversal, which do not resolve the die, but instead work off the value. The same as Disarm and many others.

Anything involving die faces and values can be done with 1 singular die EXCEPT resolving it.

Resolving a modifier beefs up another die. Unless you were able to resolve multiple dice at once it cant be resolved.

The same thing goes for resource costs. If you are not resolving the die you dont pay the cost.

thanks everyone
