Spoiler: Censure. Worst card so far?

By InquisitorM, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

I think it's okay. It's conditional, it opens cancelling options for other clans that Crane and Scorpion and it free your deck from splashing them. Seems imperial favor will become more interesting.

Much interesting imperial cards coming now.

Conspiracy theory: it's not a Scorpion coup that will happen. It will be an imperial takeover.

Interesting. That's in line with the Crab story fiction. Asking for imperial support but never getting any answer. I mean, what could possibly be more important than fighting back the foul creatures of Fu Leng. The Day of Thunder is still a thing in this new setting, so it's not like there's no presedence for invading Shadowlands forces. But if some high level government official wanted to keep the Crab occupied, not helping them in their efforts to secure the Wall would be a good move. Could also be that he/she's the same person who hired the Boar Ronin. Whether or not this is simply an ambitious imperial official or a Kolat infiltrator, I can't say.

Cant remember on which 5 rings FB page I'm member of I read it, but someone posted a scan of the Tears of Amaterasu story insert, involving Kachiko and Hantei XXXVIII. Interesting story that made me think about this.

Well now other clans can cancel the event cancels. I don't know if this is so bad. Certainly Phoenix will like it. They get the favor easily. On the other hand Crab sees another Event cancel that probably won't be easy for them to play. No Courtiers and no real Glory really makes it hard for me to include any of these things. If I'm winning the favor I'm also probably ahead on ring claims so it's a bit of a win more card for Crab IMO.

Someone wrote on reddit that it is not possible to interrupt the interrupt, so no stacking of cancels. Is that true or not?

I don't understand why that would be... It's an event cancel. It says when the effect of a event would initiate cancel that effect. Voice Of Honor and Forged Edict are events with effects printed on them.

It probably will hurt Crab. They don't have the glory values to win the favor reliably and event cancels stop Way of the Crab.

Yes I do think this weakens Crab. It also greatly weakens things like Assassination and Display of Power. In some competitive Crab builds we were playing both those cards.

ADD: On the plus side since this weakens Assassination it also strengthens 2 cost characters.

Also think about all the card abilities we are seeing that require you to discard the favor.

“Pretty sweet Kakita Yoshi you have there. Pretty sure you want to use that ability. Is that Censure really worth it?”

I didn't even think of that but indeed Daigotsu is born already, and second in line. Excellent mate.

Just read the comments on the FB L5R LCG main group and almost all I saw was hate, disgust and threats of rage quitting. Then I went to a Phoenix group and all I saw was "awesome" and "amazing".

With Benten's Blessing it looks to me like Phoenix might be a big winner in this first cycle.

Has it even been confirmed he exists in this timeline?

Would need to recheck the fictions, but I think there was a hint somewhere about Sotori's brother.

Love it, love it, Love it!

Now I definitely don’t have to run Crane or Scorpion in my deck! YYYYYYEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! ?

(2 copies of these as an auto include into all of my decks... I don’t play Crane or Scorpion)

It can't be the worst card, it's not purple!

I love it. Because I'm going to use it. A lot. I Am Ready + hyperagression means I have the Favor way more often than I don't.

The imperial children (emphasis on the plurar form) were mentionned. No direct mention of Daigotsu, but it would mean the man that became Daigotsu in the old storyline was never abducted and corrupted, and was raised as an imperial. It would also means the Yotsu family doesn't exist (at least it doesn't have the same origin story).

He may not have been abducted, but with baby momma living in the palace, he'll probably still get corrupted :P

And that's part of what makes it a problem.

I’m not sure I understand. Is the problem that the card is too good?

Absolutely. Zero cost and only 1 stipulation for cancellation? far too good. If it had required discarding the imperial favour then I wouldn't have an issue. ****, even 1 fate would have been nice.

I'd rather have my Banzai! cancelled than my Banzai! character bowed. (perspective)

I think the concern is that event cancel is ubiquitous now. Therefore events are going to be less powerful. I wonder in practice how much it will actually be an issue. Considering how meta warping Assassination and Banzai can be I'm not sure it's that terrible that there is a neutral counter to them. That said yeah I think this could have cost a bit more considering it's neutral.

I love it. finally, something useful in my Unicorn deck. :D

I am not happy with this card.

It is open to all clans, right. It allows you to cancel events out of crane or scorpion. Right. But consider the fact that it reinforces the denial on those clans. With this card in the pool, everytime we face those two clans, we will have to expect a cancellation is in their hands.

That is awful. Its mere presence in the pool breaks apart some sinergies that were giving some light to the darkened path of crab and unicorn, like the charge/FGG combo. Anyway, any sinergy that is elaborated and more or less expensive, will be too dangerous due to this card (and the other two). Not only that it will be so hard to play them against Crane or Scorpion. Also, now we have to add Phoenix to the list of clans that will probably disable a sequence in which you have invested a lot. I mean, any current or future sequence.

It also enhances the position of the player in current advantage, favoring somehow, even when slightly, the feared snowball effect.

The good point is, if you are going to include cancellation in the card pool, at least give it to every clan. Not free, not unconditional, but available at least.
