Endor Gen Con Map Moc

By JackD2204, in Star Wars: Legion

When I first found out about star wars legion, I wanted to see some gameplay of the actual figures from the game, fully painted and on a custom map. This is exactly what I found in the Gen Con videos! The one map that really inspired me was the endor map. I like the trees, and also the different levels of terrain. I am planning to make a map similar to this and was wondering if anyone else was, and strategies they might be using for their endor maps. Also: HOW DID THEY MAKE THE SURFACE OF THE MAP HARD ENOUGH TO ROLL DICE ON, AND SO THAT THE FLOCKING WOULD NOT COME OFF?

I have a 36 part (and counting) video series on an Endor project that might provide some insight.

@JackD2204 Here are two links to a blog of the terrain artist that built two of the game tables used for demos.

I'm not sure if he's responsible for any of the other ones, but he's got another work blog about when he made a demo table for RuneWars that could be of use as well. It's in 4 parts:

Watered down white glue and play sand for the board, watered down glue- painted on the board- sprinkle on grass. Its that simple.

I think I actually did see some of your videos on this, I was particularly interested in how you did the hill on the map, that is the most challenging part for me

This sounds like a good idea, how would it be executed? Are there any players online that use a similar technique?

This is the answer. Simple and effective technique. Gritting a board is just sand, and white glue. Once its dried, use a spray bottle with a water/glue mix. Spray all the sand. Paint/tint the sand if desired. Then flock with grass and white glue. Once its dried, spray with the water and glue mix again. Spray again if desired. The flock will hold.

Use a large paint brush to put the glue on. Dump buckest of sand on and shake slowly. Have somthing under your board to catch the sand. Do large sections at a time. I use insulating foam board. You can even cut into it a bit to form divits and craters. Also build it up a bit for small hills. Not to tall though, just a 1/4"

So is the initial board a wooden base with sides that you pour the sand into?

Some people make their own mats, others their own boards or tables. And others just make terrain elements. It all depends on how far you want to take it and what techniques you want to try.

Your best friend for this is going to be YouTube.

Ok, I get how to do it, you get the dimensions of wood you want, and then put PVA all over it and then put the sand on.
