BH: assassin seems like a good fit, with some survivalist as well to round it out a little....
Maybe some marauder. They are nasty at melee
Maybe some martial artist
Infiltrator might be good
People talk about infiltrator being a good brawl spec but i just don't see it.
Just out of curiosity do M.A. and doctor synergize?
39 minutes ago, TheShard said:Just out of curiosity do M.A. and doctor synergize?
If you want to min max and your GM don't stop you... yes totaly.
you buy into doctor (30) - Grit (5) - surgeon(10) - resolve (10) - Preasure Point (15) - anatomy Lesson (20) - dodge (25)
Now your M.A. is able to reduce incoming (unvoulnatory) Strain by one and is able to upgrade the difficulty of incoming attacks.
But the real pain (for your GM at least) is the M.A. combined with preasure point and anatomy lesson.
With a decent Brawn of 4, inteligence of 3 and Coordintion and medicine of 4 (each) and a good brawl of 3 you can one hit most Minions groups, Rivals and even nemesis here how it works:
1. proclaim to use martial Grace (adding coordination skill as damage to the next brawl check) -
2. attacking (DO NOT use a DP to upgrade your attack!!!) the opponent and doing damage
3.a) if enough advantages or a triumph you may crit using supreme precision strike if it is a nemesis to do something really nasty (or improved to hit again due to "Overpowered")
3.b) Not enought advantages but still a sucess or a minion group? well proclaim preasure point now your damage will al soak surpassing strain adding medicine skill to the damage
4. Flip a DP for Anatomy Lesson to add intellect to the Damage
5. Calculate: brawn + coordination + medicine + intellect + Sucesses (minimum of 1) = 4+4+4+3+1= 16 unsoakable Strain damage at minimum.
Lets say you play a Human (gaining two free non career skillpoints one of those is for medicine) - start as martial artist (gaining free 2 Brawl points at creation and and 1 free coordination)
your 110 EXP will be used to ramp up BRAWN to 4 (70 points) and INTELLECT to 3 (30 points) Whatever system (obligation/ duty) you use try to grap 5 extra XP so you are able to purchase Precion Strike (5) and Grit (10) (the rest of the creation freebees can be used at will)
Now you start playing the character.
First steps will be : Martial grace (10) - Coordination second point (10) - Brawl third point (15) - Coordination third point (15)
Next Saving up for doctor (30)
then Grit (5) - surgeon(10) - second point of medicine (10) - resolve (10) - preasure point (15)
lastly fourth points of each medicine and coordination (20 each) and anatomy lesson (20)
= 190 EXP until you can One-Hit-Strain-Kill nearly every thing in the books that has no Nemesis lable on it (and even those will get in trouble)
Now you are free to eather go on in M.A. to refine those skills for better crits or go on in doctor to get able to use Stimapplikation to drug your brawn and intellect further up
[depending on the exp your GM gives out this should take 7-13 evenings]
Of course, I think theres a point where one is
overspecialising
in killing people. If you are able to punch out a Rancor with a single check you really have to ask whether that firepower is all that necessary for fun and enjoyment. Whether that amount of specialisation is even fun for either you or the GM. It's one thing to be pretty good, but it's quite another to be doing potentially over 12/20 unsoakable damage in a single hit.
Quite frankly, if you don't want to face oppoments with a ton of ranks in parry, or "pressure point doesn't apply to it" due to either being too thick skinned, I would be weary about engaging in such outrageous cheese.

That's the question, isn't it? This sort of thing speaks to a desire for combat, which of course could be fulfilled, but adds difficulty to GMing non-combat players in the same group. Of course there are ways around it but a GM needs to be prepared to deal with it ahead of time.
So for all those hyperspecialists out there, combat or not, it's worth talking about that with the GM and with the group - in Session Zero even!
The funny thing is yes I'm seeking combat... But not a lot. I like the idea of a deadly warrior who tries to be ned flanders to compensate. Its actually the rp value of the charecter I'm interested in. However this will probably be used in a high xp campaign so cheese isn't horribly out of place. Not saying I'm necessarily set on something super cheesy.
It is really up to the GM what does he allow to happen,
some restrict people to only career skilltrees except for Universal (so those couldn't become doctors while being M.A.-B.H.)
other want the player to reason why they choose a special tree (so you used one Med-pack on someone else since the beginning of the campaing... while other than that you only smash things with your face?... why do you think you should become a "doctor"?)
than again others make it all free available and hope for players to be reasonable... (somehow I got a bit of a laughing choke here... but that is thanks to my round... I know there are reasonable players out there... somewhere...at least I think so since I read alot good comments here ^^)
ATM I'm running a high EXP campaign with no restriction in the skilltree area (except for RAW restriction like only career Sig.Abilitys and so) and quite a lose hand on highend gear (Lightsaber crystals, cortosis and so on), just to see what my players will try to achieve... (luckily noone ever saw the Doc-Brawler combi yet but then again maxed move with FR 5 can become even worse, or double lighsabers with crit one and jury riged linked (and saberswarm-hawkbat combo...) or DEF of 5-6 (using alternative/ stacking calculating).
With other words there are alot of way to spike up the damage ... a good GM knows how to use his tools to ether restrict the abuse before it happens or how to answer them so it keeps beeing challeging.
@TheShard I like the thought of an Wrestling Guy with the kind (and squishy) soul of a Ned Flanders, would like to see how that plays out. In each case talk to your GM beforehand to make sure he doesn't think you try to abuse the system or that he wouldn't like the charackter design (it is gruesome if he thinkls his only way to end the menace is to kill your char permamently (by baridium charges... alot of them)
I get you.
Yeah I'm thinking a noghri in monks robe a skull cap and glasses with a walking stick and med bag traveling like a ronin helping people until he has to break out the space kung fu when he gets into trouble.
I think that if he plays next to a 300xp ataru he really might not be so cheesy in comparison.

They first appeared in The Thrawn Trilogy. Really great read.
Here's the wookieepedia page.

Noghri were recently made canon in the Rebels TV show. Not much canon lore yet to my knowledge.
