Is IA going to die?

By Darth Az, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I'm sure at this point I'm not the only one that believes that something is going on with IA. I know that many of us believe that the next release will be the app, but I'm starting to be really concerned with the future of the game. I'm aware that we are going to face at least one more season of organized play, since regionals are already being planned, but I noticed a few days ago that the Upcoming queue doesn't have absolutely anything for Imperial Assault, not even a sad reprint.

At first I didn't really took it into account, since it could be that they had stock of everything (weird, but not impossible). However I was reviewing the official IA site and there's absolutely nothing on stock, everything is "Not available".

Sooooooooo has FFG stopped production? Does this mean no more expansions for IA? Am I doomed to suffer the wrath of the hunters forever?

My guess is that they're going to use this months to release the app and see how Legion behaves, and then abandon for good IA (or return to it if Legion doesn't sell as well as planned). Any thoughts? Am I seeing things? If anyone could provide any info (specially FFG staff) it would be great.

That being said, I'm not joining Legion no matter what, so FFG, keep IA alive and healthy pleaaaaaaaase (you still have to fix that mess you created with hunters :P)

You have wrong assumptions and end up with wrong conclusions.

FFG cannot sell IA on their online store due to their agreement with Hasbro, the Star Wars boardgame license holder. FFG sells IA on their physical store. FFG is not out of stock, and everything is in production.

See http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/upcoming/ for reprint schedules. (Nothing announced for IA in the queue right now.)

Ok great, that only leaves me with the fear of no reprints coming (and no new stuff announced). I really hope they continue developing and fixing more and more stuff. I guess I'll panic again if they announce the next X-Wing Wave and no IA stuff

i dont mind if they cap it off at some point. i was thinking the other day, i cant keep buying campaign boxes. too many, too cluttered. if they came out with a few custom campaign books in the end for those who have purchased all the sets, that would keep some longevity for the game. as for skirmish, i don't play it much. its fun and enjoyable. I see it going the way of X-wing, unrecognizable ships, and no xwings

I was going to say something about Obi-Wan being in reprint status for a couple of months, but he's been removed. He is one with the force.

I'd give it a few months.

Obviously the release schedule has slowed, but we don't have anything other than speculation to support the idea that it's died.

I really hope they stop making campaign boxes and just keep making figure packs. We seriously don't need anymore campaigns at this point, and especially so after the app comes out and makes all printed campaign content useless, but it's tiresome that we have to keep buying them to stay competitive with skirmish.

I like playing as the imperial player. The app will take that away from me. I do hope that they do continue it for some time but I do understand that all good things must come to an end.

Why and how would the app remove all of the existing content from the world?

If it is similar to the descent app. It is cooperative against the computer. I don't own descent or the app I only know basically how it works from a friend that has descent and the app.

As an avid SW LCG player, and as long as SW LCG v1.0 is out, I always give a hearty chuckle when somebody thinks this game is going to die. Let SW LCG be your canary and just enjoy what you've got.

But he's saying you don't have to use the app. You can keep playing with the current content.

I don't know that it is dead or not. I want it to continue for a while longer. I am not ready to give it up yet.

Yes but why does the app stop you from playing as the Imperial player if you just choose not to use the app and play with the 6 campaigns we already have available? Whereas there is currently zero official options for people that want to just play co-op without having to use a fiddly 3rd party analog AI. We have plenty of traditional 1vsmany campaign content to choose from already, diminishing returns is starting to come into full force with the game at this point.

Yes I know that but getting people to play is a hard thing to do. My wife is not as skilled player when it comes to IA campaign. She would want me to help her instead of crushing her. LOL

Just don't tell her about it. And if you already have... well that's on you :D

LOL. She already knows about the app so yes it is on me. Our one friend that plays it with us. He may want me to also be on their side and he knows about it as well. So yeah I am screwed when it comes out. :(

"Whoops, the app's a buggy mess. It doesn't work. Sorry!"

Or you could just be honest. Either way, I think this is a pretty easily fixed problem.

Personally, I'm all for whatever content they still release- I'd still like more big boxes for sheer content, more small boxes could fill us out with more side missions, more blister packs are great (though I really do prefer the blisters for Imp/Merc generics as opposed to uniques).

Heck, I can't even complain about Skirmish maps, even though I'll never get one. Just keep it coming!

I might try to use that. LOL I agree I want them to keep it coming big, small boxes, and blister packs. Just keep it coming for a while longer.

The idea of releasing campaign booklets that combines several boxsets pops up every so often on the forum and I’m more than happy to reinforce it. Seriously, it’s a great idea. The majority of IA players have every expansion anyways...right?

Your last line is very real possibility and I hope IA doesn’t reach that point. HOTE has hints of it (DP replacing ST) but FFG is doing a good job bumping up the figures we all know and love (Jedi Luke, skirmish fixes).

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that there will be an option to play as Imperial vs. a Rebel AI.

It would be kinda fun if they did a campaign box with some Imperial "heroes" and the overlord player played rebels. Just saying.

Yeah, and there is now a strong precedence for Imp heroes with Inferno Squad and Iden Versio. At least LFL should be totally fine with an Imp perspective expansion Box for IA :)

I had the same idea of role reversal even before Jabba's Realm came out. It goes only half way though.

I see the biggest hurdle to overcome in the role reversal to be that you wouldn't be able to use existing side and agenda missions - at least not with additional rules. Might be doable though with a little bit of development. Also, being a mini- or shorter campaign would probably be ok as well.
