Shieldpocalypse

By dwhite87, in Star Wars: Destiny

As you may or may not have heard, things have changed in the world of Star Wars Destiny. There’s a lot of stuff that’s shifted and flipped, but arguably the biggest overall impact was the change to Vibroknife. In essence, only Vibroknife dice, and dice Vibroknife modifies, are unblockable. And that single change has single-handedly brought back shields as a gameplay mechanic. I wrote a write-up about shields and how to deal with them now http://midwestwargaming.com/jedi-mind-tricks-shieldpocalypse/

I'm going to go out on a limb and say, to soon. Let shields have a comeback for a little while. Writing an article about action cheating and how to deal with it, would be a good topic.

Also don't forget that if the Vibroknife die is the one being modified it will still all go under shields. But yes, shields are meaningful again.

It still counters shields pretty hard, just not automatically.

If its involved in a modify combo, all the damage is unblockable. For instance if it mods a 3damage die for +2 alongside Electrostaff +3 thats 8 unblockable damage since theres still only 1 die causing damage, its just both being modified for +3 to be a 6damage AND modified by the vibro for +2 and its ability to be unblockable.

All that faq did was prevent it from rolling garbage and still being potent as ****. The fact that it worked even if it rolled a blank was rubbish and thats basically what happened to it.

I love the look on my opponents face nowadays when i run rieekan mill i manage to shield myself up decently...they just stare at those shields with a "what the he|l im supposed to do with that" :D

actually played against rieekan mill just last night while running a "budget" eKylo T1 and Grievous aggro deck (**** me if I'm spending $200 on ancient sabers and force speeds, but I'll take the riot batons)

the game was very close, in part because of how impossible it is to trigger Kylo against that **** deck (also not targeting rieekan, derp), but they managed to break through without vibro knives thanks to all the melee faces they have and thanks to combination of Tactical Mastery/Leadership. Grievous even made off with a sweet pair of goggles to boot

not going to lie, the errata was what got me playing the game more. Even as someone who had played only 1 game prior, it was blatantly obvious how silly cards like Imperial Inspection were and also how Vibroknife negatedan entire game mechanic by simply existing. Unblockable damage obviously exists, as does vibroknife, but they're much more manageable and sensible now
