I got into destiny around December of last year, it sold very well and was a great game. Come January they announced SoR, may comes around I pick up one box. Then empire at war comes and I don't really have any money to spend so I pass on that one. Then not much later they announce not one, but two new sets. At this point I am not really sure I still want to play this game any more, it was a great game, lots of fun but it just takes so much time and money that I don't have. My question: is it still worth playing? Is it even worth keeping?
Is this game even Worth playing?
Yeah man, I'm still getting folks into the game, but luckily as the card pool grows the relative power of legendaries decrease. Thats why from here on out I'm buying the occasional pack and mostly getting singles.

Yeah, but in, say a year the cards I have won't really be worth much and probably won't be good in tournaments. Plus I don't know many people who play so I just think I should get rid of my stuff. Maybe play x-wing a little more.
None of us can answer the question whether you personally have the time or money to commit to playing a CCG.
This is a slower release pace CCG, but it's still a CCG. Sets need to come out regularly and thus it isn't going to be the cheapest of gaming hobbies.
FFG was to reckless with some of the cards to being with. That being said, they figured this out and are trying to get more sets out quickly so they can retire the first two sets.
i think its safe to say they got a grasp on things now balance-wise. Virtually all of the major problem childs were spawned early on (sabine the only exception i can think of)
However thats not relevant if were talking enjoyment of the game vs amount of income you can spend on it. If you are struggling to buy new things (you dont have to get EVERYTHING btw) and this game is kinda lower on the totem pole of what you consider fun you should probably opt out. Dont blow your money on something you dont really enjoy that much anymore.

There’s only one new set coming out. It’s called Legacies. Anything else you’re seeing is related to the Rivals pack, which is a fixed rarity starter pack which allows players to play in the new Draft and Sealed formats. It’s a totally optional purchase.
Hope this has cleared things up and helped quiet your panic.
Why you need new set boxes? To get top legendaries, as rares are ultra cheap, cost of getting 2 rares on sigles market is silly.
But then again ill quote interview with our Polish nationals winner who player no Ancient Lightsabers and only 1 Riot Baton in his deck:
-"Why no AL and only 1 Baton, there was some strategy behind it?"
-"Well you know...i have only 1 baton and i borrowed my ALs to my kid for today".
That should answer your worries about price tag of the game....
Plus one of the most succesfull decks of current meta (Rieekan/Padme/Instructor) consists of 6-8 rares and no legendaries (Googles are a bonus not must have in it).
I feel you, I'm in the same boat.
As people here have said, you can play really cheap if you are selective about what decks you play. I had decided that for the next set I'd just play online and/or with proxy cards until I'd settled on a deck, then buy singles. That can totally work for little money.
However I know myself. I'm too much of a completionist to be happy that way. I also like flitting from deck to deck. I know I would end up spending more than I should, even with that plan. That's why now I've decided to switch to an LCG (L5R specifically). I love Destiny, but it is costly unless you have the self-control to accept not having a lot of cards other people do.
Edited by shivoreI do understand the frustration with all the news (spam) of what's coming. Not everyone buys 2 or 3 boxes and has 95% of everything in the first week. Say you spend ten bucks a week ($20.00 the week it realises). You are lucky to have 20% of the set before they are showing the next. A lot of people are feeling the squeeze.
Ok fellas you need to get yourself on a straight line again:
Destiny is a CCG.
By definition in CCGs you do not own whole collection. Tell some Magic player that you want to own everything he will just laught at you. Time when everybody could have whole card base are over for Destiny. Now you either construct 2-3 decks that you gonna play with for the upcoming months till meta shifts or you have really deep pockets. Period. There should not be any crying about that cause that just shows that you do not understand how CCGs work. Sets are releasing on fixed 4 month cycles. Did EaW and Leg had side product releases at same time? Yes they do. Do you have to buy them to have fun and be competetive? No you don't (i do not own a single card from 2p set and im very competetive player with very decent results).
Just shift you mentality ladies
This is just part of a CCG. I think a lot of people came to this game with the unrealistic expectation of getting a complete set the day each new product came out, like they do with X-Wing. This is because most FFG products are a semi-LCG kind of deal, where most people just buy every product that’s released (X-Wing, Armada, Imperial Assault, etc.)
It so happens that I have almost a full set right now, because I am really enjoying the game and I think my Awakenings and Spirit of Rebellion spares will be good trade fodder as more people join. But I really don’t expect to keep that up, and I’m going to have to say at some point “yes, I want that new card, and no I’m not buying five boxes to get it, so am I willing to trade my Force Speeds for it?”
Edited by KieransiEdit: I saw that Vitalis posted like the same thing while I was typing that. I agree with you, Vitalis.
The starters are fixed offer great characters and are playable. So you can enjoy the game on a budget. Buying singles is a great way to get the dice cards you want.
I look at it this way, 3 sets per year. If I buy 1 booster box per set I get all the commons and a good number of the rest. Then I can buy singles as desired. And once a year, Two staters. This gives me the decks I want and a really good pool of cards. Without spending crazy amounts of money.
plus for me it's the best game out there right now by long shot.
I've only just started playing, but it seems FFG has been really good about putting staple cards in starter sets and in Awakenings. ****, captain Phasma from the two-player-game needed an errata!
coming from X-wing, where there is an undeniable power creep coming in with new releases, I gotta say that Destiny learned from it at least in that regard
only problem now is stuff like ancient lightsaber and force speed being fifty freaking dollars Hopefully you can play on a budget without needing this ubiquitous, low cost cards
then again, it seems like Blue upgrades have on average a FAR higher price tag than the others. Might just be because everyone loves the force? If you're a budget player, hope you like blasters!
Edited by ficklegreendiceYeah, it wasn't until I opened my sixth box of Awakenings that I opened a complete set of 1x of the legendaries and rares. I think for me the best would be buying one box per expansion for the fun of opening packs and exploring the expansion, then after a while buying the singles I like/want for decks on the singles market.
(knowing myself and my tendency to go whole hog and be a completionist, this may be a tough proposition.)

I guess you guys are right. I had never really played a ccg before so I guess I just didn't realize how obsessive it would be. Trial and error I guess.
Also, limited formats are one of my (if not #1) favorite ways to play in tournaments or at events--though I'm much more of a casual player. Limited formats can accommodate a more-limited budget.
For those, were the game gets too expensive, and it really is expensive. Draft and sealed are probably the way to go once Rivals is out.

The two player set would disagree. Phasma's already been fixed, and Poe is probably overtuned a bit too, although his perceived power level benefits a bit from heroes having so much jank.
I think the game is now on track to be released every 4 months or so. As such I know what I want to buy each cycle and just run up store credit slowly until I can buy the next set. I am not too sure why a store wouldn't mind or even encourage this. If you put $10 in each week you'll end up with close to 2 boxes upon release.
Beyond that, I guess the question is, are you having fun? I am, more so because of the FAQ/Errata, so for me continuing to play the game is easy enough.
Yes I will only buy singles. But even that is expensive. So continue to play, yes. Staying current on power cards, yes. Playing only a few decks, yes. Collect, no.

I agree with the bones of this post, but the tone of it is absolutely toxic . If you want to drive away new players there’s no better way to do it than by insulting them when they raise concerns, and treating them with condescension.
I put my vehicle deck together for like 70$ total. Unless you are chasing most decks are going to be in this price range. I'm done buying boxes of this stuff though.

Apologies if anyone seen it that way, it was not my intention at all (also i do not see any insults there ).

True.
This game is easy to play and accessible. Having one deck, even a competitive one, is relatively cheap. With limited budget, just look at internationnal event, spot the cheapest deck, and buy card to build it.
Of course, most people will have multiple decks etc... That is a personnal choice and will affect how much money is needed to achieve that.
My friends and I will purchase card to make 2-3 tournament decks, and with the remaining cards, we try to make original deck with less popular cards, and it ends up funny.
