Ideas for fleet commanders

By Ophion, in Star Wars: Armada

An idea for discussion, to try to encourage more variation in admirals and build styles.

Tarkin, Thrawn, Vader, Ackbar, Motti and Leia - go to 30 points

Tagge works every turn

All the other rebel generals go to 20 points

Other Imperials stay as is.

My logic being that the only real 'generic' commanders that are always useful in almost any fleet config are now all grouped at 30. The two exceptions ackbar and vader are powerful but tend to restrict your build especially in the current squadron domination. EG If you are maxing out ackbar, another 8 points isn't going to change your lists strengths and weaknesses, but making him a bit cheaper may allow for a more balanced list?

The other rebels tend to be quite restrictive in application, although I haven't particularly considered mon mothma and how she fits - potentially she could go up a bit.

I'd like to see someone that buffs rogues... Maybe syndulla... Not sure how.

I want Han Solo released as a fleet commander together with Mon Remonda

Special skill: Friendly ships may end their movement on either side of the manuevre tool, as long as they don't overlap the manuevre tool.

At the beginning of the squadron phase, any friendly squadrons with the keyword "rogue" that have been activated this round may receive an objective token. Squadrons that received a token this way may discard an objective token to activate as normal. Squadrons that activate this way must push their slider to the "ready" side during activation and cannot activate again this round.

Could be a neat little gimmick that let's you activate your rogues with ships and then get a second activation from them that round at the cost of being able to activate them next round.

May be over priced or under priced. I don't use Rogue enough to gauge this properly

The game is deffo missing a General Solo card-and I'm not a rebel player.

There are plenty of reasonably famous EU fleet commanders, Zinji, Daala etc to release (although I'm still fuzzy on if the EU is off limits to FFG now)

My most wanted commanders now that we're getting Thrawn and Raddus are Saw Gerrera and the man himself Emperor Palpatine.

Cool Idea! Would also love the "space tadpole" Mon Remonda!

General Han Solo (Non Unique)

Commander

0 points

"The unique squadron "Han Solo" must be present in this fleet and is treated as the flagship. The effects of this card last until "Han Solo" the unique Squadron is destroyed.

During the ship phase, instead of activating a ship, you may activate 2 friendly squadrons that have not been activated. These squadrons may move and attack this activation.

Increase the point value of "Han Solo" the unique squadron by 10 points"

Probably waaaaay weird.... but I kinda like the idea.

It's heresy no one has mentioned the omission of Admiral Piett from this game.

Hiperlane raid

It has to be a non objective token to not break missions with objective tokens...

Jar jar!!!!

Your attack pool is increased by 6 black dice. You may only attack friendly ships.
42 Points

But seriously tho, I like this idea. An extra 8 Points in an ackbar list could be a crucial officer you could't otherwise afford, or Engine techs on an MC80...

I don't like it. If you drop Ackbar by 8 points then you run the risk of him being the only Rebel commander we ever see. I've already been to a tournament where all 3 of my games were against Ackbar lists. It gets very tedious playing basically the same game 3 times in a row.

Piett and all the guys from the meeting in A New Hope. We gotta have them!

General Calrissian. He ran Bespin so has good irganisation skills. He obviously did something at Taanab etc.

Han as a General sounds reasonable but doesn't 'feel' right to be in charge of large fleets.

Han a general? All we know how he got that honour... <_<

Han Solo commander - 26 points:

At the start of the Ship Phase you may nominate one of your ships to make an attack from one of its hull zones. This will count as one of that ship's attacks (from that hull zone) when it activates later in the turn.

Han shoots first....

Rebels are missing guys like General Skywalker, Amiral Antilles (Wedge post Ep6), General Calrissian... all could be squadrons' friendly

Admiral Motti.

General Tagge.

Wulff Yoularen.

Grand Moff Tarkin.

Darth Vader.

Pretty sure we have them all.

Were they all visible there?

Weird... I mean, I know Wulff doesn’t speak, but those are the speaking parts ...

Ill have to research and re watch now, thank you ?

Edit: Yep, some front shots, some backs of heads...

Standing corrected...

We got the speakers at least. And Wulff, as a character, spoke a bunch in the Clone Wars, so he still passes ?

You have listed some Death Star Troopers present in the meeting room. We are talking about commanders :P Otherwise I know a bunch of thousands of Stormtroopers you may put in your list ^^

I'd like to see Commodore Agate from the Star Wars: Aftermat h novels, but we're only likely to see those if/when we get Nadiri Starhawks, since she commanded one in the Battle of Jakku.

(*shrug*) I just googled "guys in A New Hope meeting" and that's the list that came up.

And who says the guards aren't commanders? Star Wars never had a very structured chain of command. Why are Generals in charge of navies? If General and Admiral are interchangeable, then I want General Veers.
