PMD: 2017-11-05 - Daqan vs Waiqar - Careful Approach

By Glucose98, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Hey guys, I wanted to start up a new trend about discussing property strategy for turn 0 and turn 1 in Runewars. I am referring to these posts as Pimp my Deployment (PMD). The gist of it is, to post the initial deployment of both sides, and the result of turn 1. Since most of this will not depend on combat and die rolls, we should be able to discuss some strategy in how to set up and how to move on your first turn.

So without further ado -- here is the the image of deployment of Daqan vs Waiqar on Careful Approach. The objective is bounty, and the Carrion Lancers and the XBow men marked with "11" are the two bounty units.

So I played Daqan in this match. And I can tell you that I definitely suck at handling Careful Approach. For instance, I could not easily march-turn my 2x2 Cavalry after the first move, given that they were so close to the edge. I forgot that turning a unit is going to make its backside swing out and hit the edge of the mat. I was however, able to do a reform + march-2 afterward to make up for it, but it limited my options pretty heavily. I would have rather put the 2x2 Cav where Kari was to hit the gap on the top for flanks.

Kari also got in the way of the crossbowmen pretty consistently throughout the game. She was in range to shoot things, and they were not. I would have liked to have put the Latari Training on her, so she could have continued to move forward while shooting so the xbowmen behind her could have done some more damage.

Also -- while not part of deployment discussion, cursed signets on my tarpit Spearman was a stupid idea. I should have just taken the blight -- it wasn't about damage output anyway.

I was really hoping you were going to say "cursed signet was an amazing idea!"

I think its a good idea for a spearstar wanting to output damage. Not for what I had :)

It probably better is better against less blighty opponents.
