So there has been a lot of stuff going on with pilot skill 10 Captain Nyms, talk of pilot skill 11 Kylo Rens when the TIE Silencer releases. To fix this, I feel it would be best to put the restriction of "you cannot equip this card if your pilot skill value is 8 or higher" on VI. Anyone care to weigh in?
Veteran Instincts fix idea
Personally I feel like ps9 should be the highest allowed ps in the game cause you have your Vaders, poes, and kylos just your named aces at that ps level and just for that reason who is going to be out flying them? Thematically and realistically speaking probably not nym or just some other named sumgular or pirate or even a high tier named rebel pilot. So yeah I don't think they need to change veteran instincts if it's a real problem but probably should put a cap on ps instead. That way veteran instincts stays a good way to buff up a low ps pilots but not make a ps 8 or 9 pilots busted.
Really, they just shouldn’t have let any non-iconic pilots (Dengar, Talonbane Cobra, etc.) be PS9. That should be reserved for saga-altering ace pilots like Darth Vader, Wedge Antilles, and Poe Dameron.
That being said, the Nym problem is way bigger than that - they also shouldn’t have let bombers have EPTs. Historically, ships like the Y-Wing had to go without for game balance purposes. And the Scurrg should’ve been accurately sized on a large base. An intermediate base size wouldn’t have hurt either, so that IG-88s, K-Wings, TIE Punishers, U-Wings, etc. had an accurately sized base.
All that being said, I think capping PS at 9 is the best possible option. The pilots with a high PS still get rewarded by having access to a different EPT and not having to take VI to fight for control.
Also, I liked that you put this in the off-topic section! Thanks!
Edited by KieransiHerdcap of PS at 9 was proposed a hundret times bevor. Yes, would be a good idea.
VI shouldn't have been a permanent change to PS, rather a one time use/discard like Lightning Reflexes & other upgrades.

That's a good point
The problem is not the PS. When you make an EPT slot VI you take away attack improving options like PTL.
the problem is everything else on those ships
I have a PS11 Talonbane with Vaksai Harpoon Guidance - that is all - in my recent list, he's there for an alpha strike - threatening both Range 2-3 with the missile and the dread range 1 5 dice. PS11 helps me not get arc dodged - but he dies pretty easily after his initial attack, if he gets more than one shot he did a GREAT job. The rest of my list? PS1, PS1 and PS6 - Use the high PS to deal some decent initial damage and then the rest of my list needs to be flown properly - I won against Dash+Poe and against Rey+Miranda. All 4 of those ships had PS higher than my list except for my PS11 Talonbane.
I think VI is just fine the way it is. You sacrifice stronger options like PTL to avoid being arc dodged - and on talonbane I could easily equip boost or barrel roll too if I sacrificed something else in my list and then maybe PTL to be able to do something.
I don't have a problem with VI - I'm not sure why anyone sees it as a problem really?
Cruise Vader and Cruise QD? I'm 2 victories against it and one loss, always with lower PS ships.
If your only concern is "it doesnt make sense for Nym to be a better pilot than Poe" then don't play this game? If both have VI then Poe (PS9+2) is still a better pilot. So I really don't understand the issue at hand here.
Git gud is what I'm getting at I guess.

Well we have situations where certain archetypes are so powerful and prevelant that you have to counter them. In manny cases that means you have to have a certain pilot skill to move after a certain build (though often having Turrets and lots of HP works also).
In the Nym Meta you have to have PS 10 or 11 with your aces otherwise they are just wasted points.
That means every ship which can't reach PS 10 or 11 is out. Additionally every ship which needs a certain (non VI) EPT to be viable is out (e.g. Soontir) also a faction which lives mostly on EPTs and hasn't lots of other fancy upgrade options ((Salvaged) Astromechs, Illicit, Crewslots on competitive ships) to make up for it suffers.
The problem is that the pool of possible options is dwindling.
Now if no ship could get a ps skill over 9 (because you would make 9 a hardcap or rule that high ps ships cant take VI or adapability) this would open up the field. Whenever the meta called for the 'highes ps possible' that would be 9 meaning that all ps 9 ships would be in (with EPs of their choice) and also every ps 7 and 8 ship with EPT slot would be viable too. Its about options. At the moment as an imperial player I look at the Uniques of my faction and think there are about 60 to 70 options but only 3 or 4 of them are worth thinking about and that feels frustrating.
