elusive monster question

By Joseph_Lavode, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Do elusive monsters move away from a space with an investigator in it when their movement symbol comes up in the mythos phase? I know investigators can choose to move away from them without an evade check, but do the elusive monsters still follow the rule that monsters do not move away from a space with an investigator?

No, they don't move - they stay put.

Think of them as hiding from the Investigators and staying very still under a small bush until the Investigator stops looking and goes away. :-)

Which is a bit of a wierd thought with, say, a werewolf gui%C3%B1o.gif. Thanks!

Otherwise, it would be rather easy to negate monsters like the werewolf or Tulzscha cultists.

"1. Do Elusive Monsters still not move if an Investigator is in their space? Given that they deliberately avoid combat, it seems that Elusive monsters should move whether an Investigator is in their space or not. Otherwise it's a pretty big weakness, since a player could neutralize Tulszhca's Elusive Cultists just by staying in their space. And do Hastur's Cultists NOT swoop down on Investigators, but only on Elder Signs when Tulzscha is the Herald? All of this would seem very logical, but the rulebook doesn't say.

Ok, I've got some time this afternoon, so let me try to clear these up.

1. Elusive monsters will ignore investigators for purposes of movement, so they'll move away if they're in the same area as an investigator. This will be errata'ed when we update the FAQ for Kingsport."

A little question related to the Werewolf: what about an investigators entering an area with a Werewolf? I think nothing happens, since they deal damage with their movement and in this case the Werewolf stays still, since is the other one to move. But I'm not sure about this...

Elusive monster do move away from investigators as though investigators weren't there.

The werewolf only deals damage if it moves onto an investigator, as it's using kind of a sneak-attack.

However (at least according to the new FAQ) the werewolf will also do its stamina damage if it appears as a result of "A monster appears!"

Yes. Even though it is rather ironic. Sample investigator dialogue:

"I hear the howlings of a hideous creature."
"It is the werewolf, we are in grave danger!"

"Come, let us go to it, for all other places are unsafe."

"Maybe it just attacks us because it wants attention."

New skill suggested: "Purring - Scratch the little scruffy werewolf to enter combat without an evade check"

::Sigh:: I'm afraid I just won't be able to be afraid of the werewolf anymore.

It's like the scene in Pitch Black where the creature can't see Vin Diesel because he's right up in its face.

Sorry. Sorry.

WOW. How beautifully appropriate. Looks as though he's the perfect for the in-your-face roles.
