New Clan Roles + Story Decision

By ElSuave, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

Lion: Keeper Fire

Crane: Seeker of Air

Dragon: Seeker of Fire

Scorpion: Seeker of Void

Phoenix: Keeper of Water

Unicorn: Keeper of Void

Crab: Keeper of Earth

The Shogun has chosen #Justice.

Doji Kuwanan will be going back to meet up with his sister Doji Hotaru.

Oh, to be a fly on the wall for THAT conversation...

Glad to see #Justice was served, but I don't think I could be less enthusiastic about Keeper of Water. Yikes.

I think the intention was gaining Covert with Adept of Waves in order to generate more fate from winning water conflicts. Now to see if we can fit some 1/1 Keepers in there.

Keeper of Earth. Craaaaaaaaab!

It's only on defense that you get fate, but maybe free dudes off the Keeper Initiates will be helpful. I don't really see them fitting in to Phoenix very well, though.

Thanks for posting! Was wondering why this wasn't in the stream.

I'm glad they made that story choice as a player, since I think that's the one that'll lead to the more interesting story. As a Dragon...well, we weren't exactly involved in this dispute, so I don't know that in-universe Dragons would actually have an opinion, but I do think Justice follows the Dragon philosophy pretty much to a T.

Also, I JUST recently made my first two two-core decks, and it looks like I'll ALREADY have to change them lol. The winds of fate can be a...jerk...sometimes.

Ohhh I see... yea I'm very unfamiliar with Keeper role text lol. Hmmm...

I know, right? More splash now, though. I can't be too mad, because we were going to lose double void provinces no matter what. It was too good!

Until someone can convince me Disdainful Remark isn't straight gas......

I think some people made some really poor choices.

So happy to see Crane and Scorpion with seeker roles. This gives me a little hope for the upcoming kotei season

GOODNESS. CRAB GETS KEEPER OF EARTH. WOW. WALLS WALLS WALLS.

This will be very, very interesting!

I think Crab could come to regret not being able to use their seeker card but keeper looks really strong for the Crane splash.

Hey, Ponies didn't get screwed! I was going to be so disappointed if I couldn't play with the Talisman, that thing is crazy fun. Void is meh, but who cares. Awesome that we didn't pick last, go Brandon, our saviour!

I'm liking the Dragon Seeker, too, the Stone looks fun to play.

I was already splashing Crane in my pONI deck so I'm super stoked to see a keeper role. Although I wouldn't have minded Crab for that Pathfinders Blade.

Props to that pONI player for getting it done.

I feel that was the best we could have hoped for considering we couldn't go Keeper of Air again and Keeper of Fire was never going to happen. Crisis Breakers and free Keeper Initiates to feed to Gunsos and Witchhunters makes me happy.

I want to know the Scorpion's reasoning for going with Seeker of Void.

Keeper of Anything was a much more obviously beneficial choice given the cards we have seen.

I've heard whispers that some wanted to rein in Crane and Scorpion a little for the next season and decided to try to tank their picks.....

If true I think it's awesome

that's true for Scorpion, but afaik that player just missed taking top of clan to do that. Lost his Dragon Hatamoto status trying it, too.

So Crane just whiffed? Lol

Need to lay off the Kachiko sauce

I dedicated the pick to Brad Emon. His reasoning behind not wanting Keeper was a genuine desire to keep the game fun and thriving, and Backhand had the potential to really destroy people's will to play.

Brad was totally willing to embrace being a villain to make this happen, and I have nothing but respect for that.

If there are Scorpion players who aren't willing to be villains, then this may not be the clan for you.

If people wanted a different choice, they had the opportunity to beat out Brad and myself. We finished first and second placed Scorpions at Worlds. I reckon we earned the right to make this choice.

I think this was awesome. I wish I could just keep liking it until I explode the internets

Didn't realize Backhand was seen as a NPE card, but this explanation is awesome and it's the sort of thing that attracted me to L5R as a new player (never played old5r). Scorpion as second favorite clan: confirmed.

Considering the Spider garb you were wearing as you picked dont worry... we all saw the villainy. ;)

Dont worry scorpions, your backhands will be loved dearly by us Fire Chickens.

Josh Johnson was also going to go seeker. Brad has been hardcore campaigning against Backhanded Compliment for a long time. The moment the cards got spoiled I got a call at like 8am from him talking about how the game is doomed.

Make no mistake, the guy cares about the game and legitimately believes Backhanded Compliment is bad for the game. If it were just limit 1 per turn it wouldn't be so bad.

Straight up pushing someone to 0 honor for free....who cares if you give them cards while they lose.
