Pulsed ray shield thoughts

By poke450, in X-Wing

I just played a small tournament with this upgrade on two star vipers, and I have to say that it was worth it. I had one on Guri, and the last game alone, I used it probably 6 or 7 times.

That's awesome. I think it really straddles the line of being effective without being too easy to use or unpleasant to play against.

Thumbs up, soldier!

According to another thread, it just helped a squad featuring a Rebel Operative win a national.

Won already two one nationals on a Rebel Operative. I would say it is totally worth it and rocking hard. And it feels much better to use as well, because it comes with a real drawback unlike most other rebel regen shenanigans.

The little hwk blocker that could......

I liked it more when you could flick it on at will to get a 1 straight for the syck/k-fighter

It was more of a damage dealer, recon and moldy crow means basically unlimited focus tokens, paired with a TLT and agility 2. That's as tough as Poe to crack for 30 points and doing those nasty TLT attacks each turn. The only weakness is the mobility, but Miranda shielded most of the time the operative … those bomblets really keep the enemies away from your ***.

I ran a 4K list tonight that had Pulsed Ray Shield and Feedback Array. That honestly might be my most loved synergy with the Vaksai title now. For two points I can essentially deal a free damage. Man did that wake up the Whisper that screamed into the tail end of my formation to avoid my arcs at range 1...

I haven't tried it on the StarViper yet. I played a couple of games with Guri and Thweek, and I can honestly say Autothrusters saved both of them from an early bath on more than one occasion. I'm dying to stick it on my old Palob ICT build though. Maybe tomorrow, if I can sneak in a game or two.

I was skeptical at first, but after trying it I absolutely love it

I had ion discharger on Guri and was able to use that in two games, which was neat synergy.

I've played Viktor Hel with PRS and Ion Dischargers in a tournament. In the end I had Thweek and viktor against a full health BB-8 Poe, who consistently did one damage to Viktor, and couldn't afford to take the ion. It must have saved me 5 damage in the game with no drawbacks at all.

I gave Viktor a go today, thinking "I'll play one with Viktor, then move on to Talonbane". By the end of the third game, I think I declared him my new favourite PITA pilot. I may try PRS with him next now.

I've tried it a few times and found it to usually work a few times, but you have to be VERY careful not to get the carriers of it in a position to be focus fired, because they're universally super squishy and will easily go down in a round if more than 1 ship's shooting at them. And it's often not tactically wise to use it at the first opportunity you get, running away and using it when out of range/arc is usually better.

It's a pretty well designed upgrade.

They should make the Rebel regen like this since it does have a down side to regening your shields. It also feels more thematic to me, now if there was a 1 Shield rebel/scum ship with reinforce it would feel more like you were playing the trench run and angling your deflector shields

Why those aren't available for the Empire is my only quesiton.

because Tie FO are already awesome with some awesome pilots? Honestly I don't know

Budget cuts. Gotta fund them Death Star projects somehow...

(I mean, think of how many tie fighters with shield generators is one Death Star made of?)

Because the devs irrational hatred of Imps knows no bounds. Also, apparently Empire is the 'We're so poor we can't afford cool stuff or unique upgrades' faction. Basically, Alex Davy has a huge Scum-Bone-er and hates Imps as a faction.

Because Omega leader would break it in half.

Because TIEs use a standardised shield design, and aren't in the habit of aftermarket modifications.

Because they violate emissions standards for Tiabanna Gas venting, and Seinar didn't want to pay the fine.

:P

Because we don't want Imperials to have anything good and giving them a buff or such to keep up with the likes of

jumpmasters or Scurrgs. Instead we just want to nerf everything down to the most mediocre power level, you know like the X-wing. :P

haha - I'm seeing a great mental picture of a bunch of bored TIE pilots lining up their ships at the Mos Eisley emissions testing station, while at the back of the line a group of scruffy Scyk pilots are desperately trying to figure out how to cheat on the test...

You have it exactly. :D

Seriously, though - Omega Leader. Nevermind the ship, that pilot is reason enough.

Ow, c'mon... nothing bad would happen if it would be available to ONE pilot in Empire... Maybe other of the FO's pilots would find a place on the tables as well..

Still, he would have 4 hit points only and would be able to lock only one opponent. In late game 1v1 he would be as bad pain as he is now, but honestly, he is cheaper than most of other threats...

Where is this enthusiasm of not allowing certain synergies when designing scum or rebel?

Rebel captive?

Agent Callus?

Both good card but they don't really see a lot of play
