An open letter to FFG regarding Regionals

By thecactusman17, in Star Wars: Destiny

Dear FFG Organized Play,

Your decision to hold Regional events on November 25th, 2017 on Thanksgiving weekend is a tremendously poor idea and inconsistent with your scheduling sensitivity around other highly revered American holidays that are known primarily for family travel.

Your nearest scheduled event to Christmas will be December 16th, 2017 where two events (for Armada and X-Wing, respectively) are scheduled over a week before the holiday. The first events in 2018 will be a week after New Year’s Eve on the next Sunday. Much like Thanksgiving, these days are also traditionally held as celebrations to be enjoyed with family and friends. Most of your own employees probably have plans to enjoy these days, and Thanksgiving weekend, in close contact with family and will find that stepping away from that to spend the entire day gaming with strangers at a remote location to be difficult at best, or unacceptable at worst.

It may not be possible now to reschedule the five regional events that have been placed on November 25th, 2017 even though many players, myself included, would rather you do so. But at least I ask on behalf of many Americans that you work to better separate future events from major travel holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. It is frustrating to have to choose between going to a local event and missing valuable time with visiting family and traveling to a distant location at significant expense.

Sincerely,

thecactusman17

Sadly they probably won't see that here. Send it to customer service. You do make good points though.

I hate to sound like a ***** but talk about first world problems.

Too late, you do. Literally every complaint involving this game could be considered a first world problem, that doesn't nullify that some people would like there schedules to work in tandem with their hobbies.

For every person that a date like this inconviences there are others that benefit from it.

Why the heck would you schedual a tournament on a holliday? That's just dumb.

Black Friday is bad enough without making it Dark Side Friday aswell!

There are undoubtedly people that would benefit from the event starting at 10pm too. Doesn't make it a good idea.

Your silly assumption aside, the possibility of reducing turn out by half doesn't seem good for the game.

Not everyone treats the whole weekend after Thanksgiving as a holiday the way the OP is suggesting.

It doesn't really matter whether everyone does, so long as a very substantial number of people do. And a very substantial number of people do. Forcing those people to choose between a family weekend and a singular event is not cool. This is the same twisted logic that gives us Black Friday openings on Thanksgiving morning.

Actually that is a very bad and unsafe weekend to travel since so many people are traveling, at least in the US. People outside the US could careless. So holiday or not, bad weekend to do anything other than turtle up at home.
