Scum Aces

By Dave Grant, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I am a big fan of latereal and unusual movement in xwing and generally fly Aces.

I generally get my fix from my Phantoms and other Imperials but recently played with the new Starvipers and I am a little bit in love!!

So, a scum Aces list for perusal:

Thweek: mk2, Virago, AT, adv sensors, Glitterstim

Guri: mk2, PTL, AT

Fenn Rau: PTL, AT, Concord Dawn

Thweek will usually get PS and hope to go last. The curved barrel roll and adv sensors is just nuts, especially if you move last.

Others are more "typical" builds.

Thoughts?

Intensity Guri is supposedly phenomenal; I don't understand the particular value of the combo, but regardless, perhaps you would and would find the worth.

Honestly, I think its strong. There's really nothing in particular to improve; as you say, they builds are tried and true.

I'm a little worried about Thweek getting to move last. He only matches the highest opponent, and with only a 1 point bid, I can see them moving earlier a lot of the time.

Perhaps this is a place to break out Attanni Mindlink? Guri does well with it, particularly if she's able to close to Range 1 of a ship which has already moved. That might be boosting or barrel rolling into position (and hopefully out of arc), or just using a maneuver and taking a TL. Plus, it opens up the dials a lot, since you won't have to rely on green moves (not great on a Star Viper). I know the banked-barrel roll makes up for a lot of the weak greens, but so would being on white moves. A white hard turn plus a bank BR? Nasty.

Putting Attanni on Guri and Fenn instead of PTL brings the list down to 95 points, which is kind of too large a bid. The only unfilled slots will be Torpedoes. Flechette and Plasma are both solid on Fenn Rau at his high PS. Getting Seismic Torpedoes on either Guri or Thweek could be interesting, too. Thweek can fire them before moving using Advanced Sensors, or Guri could take them, since Fenn can give her a Focus and she can clear a path for higher PS ships. Seismic or Flechette expand the bid to 3 points, which greatly improves the chances to put Thweek at high PS, or else at low PS in a list you want to block.

I'm intrigued by the idea of Intensity, too. With Guri's pilot ability sometimes able to give her a free focus, she'd be able to either double-focus or focus-evade. She's kind of low PS to rely on getting a free second token every turn, though. I can see Intensity being great against some lists, and being mediocre against others. However, it won't stress her, and it's a point cheaper than PTL. It's worth a try.

Hmm... I usually like PTL on boost barrel roll ships, but I am used to flying Adv Prototypes or Interceptors - much better greens.

Intensity should be good. Will try it (also gets 98 bid).

Boost into range one. Intensity an evade. SOC gain a focus. Have full dial available next round.

Would you equip the MK 2 on Guri as well? If you do it would open up some more points. With Intensity on Guri, you can add a torpedo slot to Fenn and still be at 97-99

But Intensity can't be thus refreshed?

Assuming they shoot at you and you spend the evade, sure. But it gives you the ability to get in close, survive long enough to shoot, and not be locked into green maneuvers.
