The funny thing was, because of maro Curt added more than he lost and ended the game with more figures than he started with.

Regarding nubs, I thought the rules already made that clear. 55.3 talks about connectors during movement. If connectors are all that contact during movement* the active player may choose to ignore those by nudging the moving unit away from the obstacle. Since other units are also obstacles, it applies to shifting or marching close to units, too.
*It's a bit more complex in that forward or backward movement allows you to ignore side connectors while sideways movement allows you to ignore front and back connectors.
