Chase Me!

By eljms, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Any help or advice appreciated. I've been playing casually for about a year, I've loved trying out different ships but I'm trying to settle on something that I can fly regularly if I want to try and be at least reasonably competitive. That said, I don't want to just go and copy whatever's most popular on meta wing right now. I like scum and villainy and I like firesprays. I'm thinking about trying this:

Chase Me I (100)
•Kath Scarlet (41) - Firespray-31
•Dengar (3)
Syndicate Thug (24) - Y-Wing
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Karthakk Pirate (35) - Scurrg H-6 Bomber
Twin Laser Turret (6), •Cad Bane (2), •Bomblet Generator (3)
The trick to it is going to be trying to get people to follow me around so that I can shoot backwards and utilize the bomblet generator. This is probably easier said than done but I want to give it a go. I've wondered about dropping the Scurrg in favor of a second Syndicate Thug, move the bomblet generator to Kath, give her expertise as well and then give each of the y-wings a seismic charge. I think this would be awesome if I could catch people with multiple bombs and Kath would be very strong with Dengar + Expertise. What I worry about though is that opponents will focus fire Kath heavily and she'll probably only last two rounds of combat. Maybe that's ok, I'm not sure. That list would look like this:
Chase Me II (100)
Syndicate Thug (26) - Y-Wing
Bomb Loadout (0), Twin Laser Turret (6), Seismic Charges (2)
•Kath Scarlet (48) - Firespray-31
Expertise (4), •Bomblet Generator (3), •Dengar (3), •Andrasta (0)
Syndicate Thug (26) - Y-Wing
Bomb Loadout (0), Twin Laser Turret (6), Seismic Charges (2)

I definitely like the second build a lot more! It has a lot to offer; the Kath is particularly potent what with it's action economy, and TLT thugs are always lovely, especially with room for a bomb.

That being said, it seems like it might be spread a little thin. Using Adv. Sensors Bomblet Nym would allow for more effectively kitted Y-Wings and more potent bombs.

However, if you wanna stick with the Firespray (which I would), I'd consider ditching bombs from Kath, or using Emon to Bomb (but with action bombs, to capitalize on his low PS). I personally love Emon (Slave 1, EM, Clusters, Conners, Cad Bane), and Nym (VI, Adv. Sensors, Bomblet Generator, TLT, EU), but I see the appeal of having 2 other ships.

Thanks for the thoughts. I tried the second list last night and it worked out pretty well. I managed to get my opponent chasing me and used the bombs and the threat of bombs to keep him from closing in too much.

Everyone's always going to focus down Kath though and it doesn't feel like y-wings are great end game ships.

I love flying Emon as well and agree that the action based bombs work well against higher PS ships. I think I'd have to fly that completely differently though. One idea I have is to pair Captain Jostero with Emon and try and set up bomb / extra attack combinations.

Yeah, Firesprays generally have a big target on their back, unfortunately.

Honestly, I wouldn't rule out Ys as endgamers; double TLTs left over after Kath or Emon is finally burned (because it does take a while) is a respectable amount of HP to eat through while getting plonked with TLT shots.

I do like the Jostero/Emon idea. Honestly I just love Jostero. And he leaves enough room for something else small.

Yeah - I'm probably still a little sour from my trial run on Friday where I probably just flew poorly at the end to be honest. I was up against Fenn Rau, Talonbane Cobra and Thweek and had two full health y-wings to take care of Fenn ... and still lost. I flew them too close together and he managed to stay in range 1 a lot of the time.

The idea with the original list was to give an opponent something else to focus on first, i.e. the Scurrg. The only time I flew it, that is what happened, but it was trickier to fly them in formation and run away neatly (although I did win that one, also against a scum three small base ship list).

To be fair, Talonebane/Fenn/Thweek is one **** of a list to fly against. I think you have a lot of potential with variants of the second list.

Yeah - I certainly haven't given up on it. Emon/Captain Jostero with either N'Dru or a Thug is the other plan but that would be more of a jousting list I think, rather than running away.
