new scummy article is up!

By PanchoX1, in X-Wing

Many Scum players may not have the skill or patience to fly these, and will get very frustrated when these amazing abilities get shot down in the second round.

I’m fine if this ship ends up being bad. I much prefer caution with such new mechanics as opposed to what we have seen in other cases.

But ya, sounds like the dial is going to be horribad. Ships with red 2 turns are really difficult to fly even when they have a 3 turn. No 3 turn and that bullseye arc better be working miracles.

I get why it comes with jam tokens...but what would the weapons disabled tokens be used for? Have i missed something?

Do we know what those missiles do? From the name, granting a Weapons Disabled token may be appropriate.

Yeah, just like how no one used the TIE Defenders because of their red 1- and 2-turns, right? :) I'm just presuming it'll have the white 3-turns, because if it doesn't I'll entirely agree with you.

Not yet, but there's 4 Jam tokens in the spread, and an extra Weapons Disabled, so yeah... maybe!

That engine is begging to be stolen and stuck onto else.

Poe was probably thinking the same thing.

Also no one pointed out the best part of the article yet: "No matter if your firing arc is ninety degrees, 180, or 360". For **** sake, FFG, we already have enough confused players in the rules subforum!

Dalan is first pilot with different ability within the same faction/subfaction.

Han Solo?

I think no matter what you do; someone, somewhere, will find a way to break the rules. You could right it 100% perfect and someone would be confused

It actually really, really bothers me when people get confused about this! There is no such thing as a 360-degree firing arc! That’s why Autothrusters works at all!

Also, as far as I can tell, you won the prize for being the first to find the inevitable error in the article. :) Congratulations!

We don't talk about old man Han.

Found the error: no ship in this game has a 90° firing arc.

That's only if you don't count the other new firing arc they introduced in this article that someone else already pointed out, the "crooked-as-****" firing arc:

swx70_bullseye_reference_diagram.jpg

So that's THREE new firing arcs with this expansion: 360, bullseye, and crooked-as-****!

Yet, that we know of.

:D That’s hilariously bad!

That’s why I said “as far as I know” - I read the other thread but I didn’t read this whole thread.

Also, I don’t know if anyone’s said this yet, but it looks like the bullseye arc is the same width as a range ruler.

Edit: don’t forget 180-degree arcs! We got those too!

Double.

The title is going to be nasty with Asajj.

I think Ketsu would be better with caster title; you could drag a ship kicking and screaming into the bullseye

Well, technically there's no such thing as a 90-degree firing arc, either.

New Han is a Resistance Pilot. The trend has been if they are in a new sub faction like Han/Chewy they will have new abilities. If same faction like Sabine, they’ll keep the ability.

4k+BR made up for some of that, but another tactic a lot of good players have is to "bail" with a 3 turn then white 4k to get back into things quickly. This ship isn't really going to be able to do that nearly as effectively and it seems to need that bullseye for a lot of its gimmicks work which is a lot more precise than than just getting a gun on target.

You mean because the primary arcs on ships are more like 80-degrees?

If the Defender didn’t have that white K turn, I think it’s safe to say it wouldn’t fly the best haha.

Right.

Right.

Well, as you know, this is a very precise and mathematical game of mechanical skill and spatial coordination and analysis... except when it comes to official FFG articles, where this is a game of complete idiocy and randomly dropping your Poe Dameron right inside the bullseye arc of a Caligula Fighter that you should have blasted off the board already, but it’s all good because the arc of that ship is about 10 degrees wider on the left side than the right.

Now that explains why that one annoying game store employee randomly walked over to my table while I was playing X-Wing and picked one of my ships without asking to show it to another person. He had no idea that there was any precision involved in this game at all!

Heh, it is amusing that the article actually provides a lore reason why Dalen has a new ability, i.e. that's not Dalen.
