Yup. I'm quite happy with the pace of Armada releases. X-Wing burned through all of the movies and half the EU already. I'm surprised I haven't seen landspeeders and cloudcars yet. A slower pace means ships I recognize, plus it gives me time to spend on playing and painting Imperial Assault and not feeling like I'm falling behind.
How many people will leave Armada for Legion?
I will be happy if they meet the two release a year for 2017. Wave 7 isn’t looking terribly promising to be out by the end of the year.
7
Wait...I think I took that question literally....
Nope. Got talked into X-Wing, and nobody in the group plays it now and the tourney scene here is ultra competitive, Imperial Assault ended up never playing, the only thing I get any games in for now is Armada.

Lol do you really consider three waves in 12 months a rapid pace? Releasing a wave every 4 months isn’t something I’d call a rapid pace. We got one wave this year which I think is what really bugs me.
Honestly I’d probably be happy with 2 waves a year if we at least got 2 releases per side in each wave or maybe the current trend of two waves with each wave having one ship per side but also releasing a campaign or packs of new objectives or ship cards or titles, just something to keep the game from becoming stale.

Another nice thing about 2 releases and we can actually play more stuff instead of getting 2-5 ships and instantly all but 1 is tossed in the unused pile. I can also buy more of each ship. I am behind 1.5 waves in X-Wing and it will cost me about $200 to catch up with just one of each ship.
Double post.
Edited by CusmTriple post.
Edited by CusmYes - I actually did consider 3 waves/year too rapid, not at first, but by the time K-Wing & TIE Punisher came out I was too definitely burnt out. They were announcing new waves before the current wave was even in stores, let alone before I had had a chance to play a tournament with it.
Answer: not very many.
I think Legion looks cute, and I'd like to try it sometimes, but it's too much 40k with unpainted minis and everything. Not going down that dark path again.

Good for you. I wish I could be happy with only getting one wave this year but i can’t help but want more ships. It feels stale right now and people around my area have lost some interest which sucks.

3 waves, 13 ships, an Ace pack, and an epic ship. Number of waves isn't so much the issue as number of total products.
2016 had 2 waves, 10 ships, 2 ace packs. It's a little overwhelming. Some of the stuff is being announced **** near the time the last wave is hitting the shelves.
For armada, 2 waves (4 ships) a year would be solid. Sticking a campaign in every other year would be nice as it would add more content and could be used to add more ship/squadron variety.

I can’t really compare x wing releases to armada releases. Yes X wing releases multiple big waves in a year which i do agree with. I got out of x wing for this reason. I feel like there is a pretty big piece of middle ground between x wing and armada though. I think there is a sweet spot of 4 to 6 ships a year plus other content like campaigns or new titles for old ships. Also would help if we got more articles.
I’m staying with the game regardless but I have anxiety that I will lose the group I have to legion I guess.
I would love more articles
The fan content from the forums and podcasts & blogs is great, but some more FFG official promotion would really help

Yeah, I think we are all pretty much in agreement. X-wing is a little crazy, but Armada isn't hitting the target. 2 solid waves a year are needed to keep things active, but ultimately, more support in the form of articles is required.

Ie multiple at ats, lots of grunts, prefab defence lines, supporting fire from space, shield generators and xwing scale fighters providing air support. Squads of stormys assaulting from the at ats.
That's the thing that really confused me about it.
Especially given the name - I absolutely had the same thought about what it would be. And that intrigued me, as it sounded like something that could maybe tie in with Armada a bit. I mean, a Star Destroyer totes along 20 AT-ATs and 30 AT-STs, various shuttles and transports, and an entire division of Storm Troopers, specifically for ground combat. Being able to fight a space battle and push through to ground a number of units appropriate for what was fighting in space...very cool!
On the other hand, if it was to be just a pure free-ground-combat game using the IA models, that could also make sense. I wouldn't be interested in it, but at least it would make sense from a production perspective.
What they did - putting out models close-ish to IA scale, but not re-using the IA models, just...what? WHY?

I pretty much agree with this. I could stretch to 3 a year. Or at least a bit more info from FFG if they are sticking to 2.
If keeping to 2 releases that have actual models, I don’t think a 3rd release that just includes new cards (eg: Lando in the falcon) would hurt.

I always have Rebellion to fall back on, my favorite game (tied with War of the Ring).
Exactly the same with me those are my two favourites as well!
I'm a historical gamer. Ancients, Medieval and Spanish Civil War. I think Armada is a great game and I've no intention of dropping it but starting Legion would eat into my time available for historical gaming so I won't be collecting that.
of all the FFG SW games, it will always be just Armada for active, serious and competitive gaming. I love you, despite my relay is broken misgivings.
PS: And the less FFG seems to care about you, the more I love you.
I think if any game will lose players to Legion it'll be X-Wing. There seem to be a lot of disillusioned people and the game doesn't seem to be in a good state at the moment.
Armada's playerbase seems more mature and enjoys the deeper, more thoughtful game that Armada provides. I think because of that it'll hold together fine. By contrast X-Wing players seem younger and more likely to jump ship for the next hot item. That's a broad brush statement of course but I think there's some truth in it.
Staying faithful to armada!
all thst painting! Good grief. I’d need no job just to have the time. Then I couldn’t afford it. Nah!
They are two different games, but they do have some major things in common, especially when it comes to strategy and playing objective-based gameplay.
I think some people may eventually make a choice between them, but for the most part, they will generally appeal to different players. I'm REALLY looking forward to Legion, but Armada is my all time favorite game, so I realllly hope it doesn't get hurt badly.
I dont paint so nope
Prepainted space ships that are just ready for making the "pew, pew" sounds, versus painting an entire legion of the Emperor's finest stormtroopers? I'll stick to Armada, and leave the painting to those with more time and better eyes than me. Now, if the Stormtroopers and Rebels came prepainted...
