How many people will leave Armada for Legion?

By cookluke5150, in Star Wars: Armada

Or play both.

Undecided. I would love to be able to do both. I buy everything in armada for my group and fear I would also have to buy all of the legion stuff as well. I’m in for this next wave of armada no matter what. I think both the chimaera and profundity look fun. Legion is a bit intimidating to someone who has never painted or built terrain. It also looks very expensive for people that need to buy both sides.

Both, probably. But if I have to pick one for some reason, it'd be Armada.

I will wait a few waves of legion. FFG has a craphazard history with game balance and I want to see if legion is one of the good or bad.

So so far now, Armada

As someone who used tonown more than 5000 peices of microarmor, I shall never go down that path again. Spaceships are all I need to satisfy my addictions now.

I shall probably pick up and play the start stuff but I cannot see it taking off as much with my gamer group as they just love the star wars Naval combat that Armada offers just a bit too much but I am looking forward to Legions as it dose look great fun.

I wouldn't expect many initial outright defections. Once Legion gets going it may start to pick off odds and ends but given Armada's sizably divergent system and preconditions, there won't be many who jump ship from one to the other. We talk about combined arms on here to measure ship-squadron synergies, but Legion is true combined arms at somewhere near the reinforced company/light battalion size scale, and that doesn't have a lot of cross adherents in Armada. Many of us trust FFG enough and enjoy the SW IP enough I expect a fair number of cross pollination but outright defection should be rare.

I can see quitting Armada for many reasons. The last wave was underwhelming. The new one also feels a bit like a let down. The absolute lack of news. Only one release this year. Locally it's four total that I know play. And even regionally there hasn't been a ton of tournaments to attend.

Legion needs to meet two benchmarks for me to dive in. I have to enjoy it and there has to be a few people locally who play it. If nobody buys in, I absolutely will not buy another game nobody plays.

I like the way Legion looks. I'm interested in trying it out. Hopefully I'll be playing both. But if the day ever comes where I have to choose between the two then I've already chosen Armada.

I will probably be leaving Armada for Shadespire. I love Armada but it seems pretty played out at this point. I want to try something new.

I will definitely buy the next wave, any future SSD, any other cool new ships, etc. And I'll never get rid of any ships. But I probably won't play any more Armada tournaments.

I would love to see a player made armada/legion campaign.

I doubt I will. I have Imperial Assault for my Star Wars dudes fighting on a map fix. I only play campaign with that, so Legion has nothing to offer me.

I will admit that I’m already jealous of some of the models that are in Legion and not in IA, but on the other hand - I don’t like the idea of putting figures together.

So I’m sticking with Armada. I hope it has a long life ahead of it.

I have already pre-ordered a Legion Base set. I like painting but the thought of painting 30 Stormtroopers doesn't sound super enjoyable to me. On the other hand the AT-ST and T-47 look like really nice models.

I think the biggest difference is I am committed to being complete in Armada, I don't feel like I will have the desire or resources to be complete in Legion. I will buy the stuff that interests me (Snowtroopers) but ignore the stuff that doesn't (Ewoks). I will probably build up to have enough for 2 complete armies with room for options but will only really get the stuff I like. If there is a card I just have to have in an expansion but am not interested in anything else in that expansion I will pay the inflated secondary prices for the card and not worry about the rest.

Armada I still want 1 or 2 or 3 of everything.

In my experience(anecdotal) A lot of armada players are ex "insert game here" players. those players moved away from those games for one reason or another but moving back to a game where they'll have to paint all of their mini's again (in really lackluster styles like Thrindal pointed out) doesn't strike me as a plus for them.

I have zero interest in Legion. There aren't really very many ground battles in OT Star Wars compared to small-party-of-rebels-sneaking-about-and-sabotaging-stuff (there's the Hoth battle, which would need plenty of AT-ATs and Snowspeeders, and there's teddy bears vs. AT-STs on Endor), which I think Imperial Assault represents well. I might grab a few models for home-brewed IA stuff, but that would be it.

I really enjoy armada so for me legion won't be the reason I go. If anything I think it's IA that will suffer in my mind because I'm looking forward to a fresh meta for me to move around my little stormtroopers.

I do think that having to make terrrain and paint minis will turn people away but you need to remember that painted minis is the ffg/xwing standard. By contrast picking up minis and painting/terrain building is the norm for GW style 40k players which to me is the target audience.

I already have an infantry fighting game. It's called imperial assault.

If this was At-Ats vs airspeeders vs infantry and emplacements I'd be in. Since I can't field a squadron of at-ats with an at-st escort with tanks and infantry... I'm not interested. At-sts at $50 means I can't buy like... 5 and give them custom schemes to field in a match.

Never gonna leave Armada before they add 3rd factions. For me this is the best game ever made.

would I play and buy Legion?

yes I would try , but I would never put so much money into this game since the pieces are unpainted and have to be assembled by own hand.

The price are also as high as large capital ships in Armada. At least they are painted.

If the pieces came painted and ready I think it would sell really good.

Probably not going to get into Legion. Already all in for Armada, X-Wing, Imperial Assault, and Edge of the Empire (currently, Armada is at the top of the heap for me). The mechanics for Legion look great. I used to play the old WEG Star Wars Miniatures Battles game. But, frankly, I was really disappointed with the decision to go to 35 mm. If they had been the same scale as IA (so I didn't have to paint minis twice — especially Stormtroopers...ugh!) or, and this would have been even better, if they had gone to 15 mm or even 6 mm, so that we could have battles on the scale of the assault on Echo Base, then I would be all over it. Personally, I think they missed a golden opportunity there.

Yeah a board game just doesn't quite do it for me. But to each their own.

Honestly I want to see a combined campaign. All the Admirals play Armada, all the Generals Play Legion.

It will be like 2v2 Rebellion meets Corellain Conflict, only much better!;)

For me its armada. If I wanted to get dirty with infantry, I would have joined the army. Go Navy!

After playing 40k since the Rogue Trader days (its original name) I'm done with painting minis and huge army games. IA campaign mode is more interesting to me these days. Plus Armada (and XW which I'm taking a break from at the mo).

If they bring an Epic scale with prepainted minis as a ground based game with herds of AT-ATs etc then I might be interested.

I wanted a SW equivalent of 40k 20 years ago. I'm done with killing my heals stood at a table for 4 or 5 hours.

Yep this. When i first heard of this as an 'epic star wars ground combat game' i expected it would mean a scale roughly like the battle of hoth in a game. Ie multiple at ats, lots of grunts, prefab defence lines, supporting fire from space, shield generators and xwing scale fighters providing air support. Squads of stormys assaulting from the at ats.

I guess the priblem with that scale is its hard to then represent the heroes both in minature and in rules and have them relevant. Oh well.
