Hi guys,
I want to build a list with an U-Wing that makes at least a modicum of sense. Any ideas?
Hi guys,
I want to build a list with an U-Wing that makes at least a modicum of sense. Any ideas?
I made a Cassian Andor with PTL, Advanced Sensors, Ezra, and Bistan. It hits pretty hard.
Ohhhhh buddy do I have a couple builds for you. The first is called Angry Andor-Always raging, always hitting for big damage. Use Rage with Advanced Sensors, then do a green maneiver, clear two stress via Inspiring Recruit, Kyle gives you two focuses, and you end up with 3 focuses and, when attacking, three rerolls. You essentially get double-modded dice and two sets of focus-modded defense! The full list below capitalizes on the plethora of focus tokens, allowing Jan to swap one of Cassian's focues to an evade, adding more to his defensive capabilities, as well as adding a *totally fair* TLT Ghost.
Cassian Andor — U-Wing 27
Rage 1
Advanced Sensors 3
Kyle Katarn 3
Inspiring Recruit 1
Pivot Wing 0
Ship Total: 35
Lothal Rebel — VCX-100 35
Fire-Control System 2
Twin Laser Turret 6
Jan Ors 2
"Chopper" 0
Tactical Jammer 1
Ghost 0
Ship Total: 46
"Zeb" Orrelios — Attack Shuttle 18
Phantom 0
Ship Total: 18
The second version is more maneuverable, as well as more interesting to fly, at least for me. I call this the Careening Cassian. It follows the same idea of Angry Andor, but with a different slew of pre-maneuver fun. Cassian uses Advanced Sensors to perform a Focus/Target Lock, then Experimental Interfaces a barrel roll via Expert Handling, ending up with focus/TL and two stress. Then you perform a green maneuver, magically transforming both stress into more focuses. While it has slightly less offensive and defensive capabilities (Rage works on any enemy while a TL is single ship, and you have 1 fewer focus if you TL), but far more unpredictable for the enemy to play against. Dash is a decent companion for Careening Cassian due to both ship's needs for flopping around with large-base barrel rolls need for space to barrel/boost.
Cassian Andor — U-Wing 27
Expert Handling 2
Advanced Sensors 3
Plasma Torpedoes 3
Kyle Katarn 3
Inspiring Recruit 1
Experimental Interface 3
Pivot Wing 0
Ship Total: 42
Dash Rendar — YT-2400 36
Push the Limit 3
Heavy Laser Cannon 7
Kanan Jarrus 3
Engine Upgrade 4
Outrider 5
Ship Total: 58
I tried the expert handling cassian this week... 3 focus is hilarious but it's dependent on have my room for a barrel roll... which means obstacles or enemy blockers can shut you down.
My next plan is to run cassian with just rage and inspiring recruit. Cheap but effective. Options to add Kyle if you really want two extra focus per turn, and even Finn for an extra attack dice.
Triple wookies have been Very popular. How About this?
Fly in tight formation, rage every round remove all stress and have the full dial of the ship. Just a thought.

Cassian keeps expertise rolling, and uses all his hitpoints for DTF. Wulf can slam into people, and more importantly, they cant bump him to shoot at someone else. Both wookies stress with tactician.
Cool, thanks a lot for the ideas! Today, we want to fly movie-ships only. Any clever ideas for that, too?
This is what I'm currently playing around with:

For movie only, I have had fun with this;
Blocker Heff that shoots, and can keep bumping the opponent
Regen Poe that can get a focus no matter the maneuver.
Fun double stress, no self-stress Nien.
People usually focus Nien since he is much less defensive, but that leaves heff up to do terrible stuff to the enemy, and poe to survive until the end.

I like Heff Tobber a lot.
Here's a variation on the "Swarm Leader Jess with A-wings" theme.
Instead of loading a lot of points on the 3 A-wings, I replace one with Heff. Crew Jan alows for one evade. Funny thing is, you can discard an evade and contribute to Swarm Leader when Jess is attacking the enemy you just blocked

A friend of mine took Heff Tobber with Saboteur to Store Championships this year. He went 3-2, so he won more than he lost with it. I can't remember all the details of this list, but it had shenanigans. Pretty sure Heff was also equipped with Anti-Pursuit Lasers, idea being that if they have no shields and no damage cards, APL hits them, and then you use Heff's ability to activate Saboteur to flip that damage card face up.

Am gpnna have to give this a go; I really really wanted the U-Wing to be good. makes me sad it's so sub-par.
I’m definitely impressed with the amount of ideas here. I didn’t have many ships yet when I got the U-Wing, so I quickly came to the conclusion that it wasn’t worth building around, and haven’t really looked at it since.

Ive flown Heff w/ zeb + jammers along with two tlt Ywings and Biggs. It is a beast of a list. Heff creates that range 2 bubble for the ywings, and zeb prevents people from bumping Heff or else, plus provides 1 extra agility for the squad. Have 100-0 wins against a Miranda/Norra list (they no likey TLTs). This was way before the biggs nerf so I have no idea how it would work today but it is a great "movie list" that looks like battle of scarif.

We just had this conversation last night. My rebel flying gf really wanted the U-Wing to work out, but we just couldn't get it to perform the way we wanted it to. Tonight we're trying a Cassian/Horton/Green squad list to see if we can make it a little more consistent.
This is by far my favorite U-Wing Build. Never use Pivot Wing unless you are 100% safe from fire.

I've had some good results in friendly matches and I've 7th in a 26 player tournament (defeated by a torpedo launched by dengar...).
With "Hera" you can keep performing a "0" maneuver, and "inspiring recruit" is a perfect fit to remove both the stress tokens from the y-wing equipped with the title and the stress-bot, R3-A2.
"Collision detector" cost "0".
"Wired" is a good choice for a ship that has always a stress token, and just cost "1".

I like it. I might steal the idea! He’d blocks, Jan Let’s him supply an evade if necessary, chopper ensures he can do it even after he flips around. Pretty cool!

I like Hera on BSP with FCS. It can sit in a corner and blast away.
I tried my Wedge-Dutch-Cassian built yesterday. The U-Wing is fun that way, but its large base and being totally overpriced really saps from it. And boy, does the T65 suck.

You are flying like the three of bottom five ships in the game at 30+ pts each
I know.
But seriously, the enemy list was Nera Dantels, Chewbacca and a Green Squadron A-Wing. Not exactly best material either.
Edited by StefanI had an idea a while back of doing a proto-Rebellion fleet using ships that might have been more common before A New Hope, which also gave me an opportunity to fly 3 ships I hadn't used before and the U-Wing fitted into that theme perfectly. I came up with the following:
Cassian Andor (34)
Kyle Katarn (32)
Nora Wexley (34)
Basic idea is that the three ships support each other by passing around focus (Kyle), generating evade tokens (Nora with Jan) and clearing stress (Cassian). Cassian will use Hera's ability to create more bumps and hopefully cause damage with the Anti-Pursuit Lasers, and then flip himself 180 with the title when the enemy get past him. Nora will probably drop down to PS6 with Adaptability so the ships can move in whichever order I choose. I'm considering dropping the Reinforced Deflectors for Collision detector and some better EPT's on Cassian and Kyle.
Tried it in one game so far which I lost against Quickdraw, Ryad and Deathfire, but I think with practice on using the various interactions it could be decent, at least for friendly games.
