Why no EPT’s on Epic ships?

By Fuzzywookie, in X-Wing

They could make Epic only EPT’s. Maybe like. Got your back - when an epic ship is within 1 of another friendly ship, the epic ship my remove a target lock from friendly ship.

Partially because they were being conservative; you don’t want people getting steamrolled by your $90 ship. Makes the barrier to entry seem higher.

Mostly, though, I think it was thematic. I mean, they didn’t give the shuttle an EPT because it was so lumbering; why would they give the Tantive one? And also...well, it’s not really like there’s one ace pilot in charge of the ship. There’s a whole crew working together. I guess they could all be elite, but...isn’t that what a team upgrade is?

Probably because it’s likely difficult to be doing crazy stunts with corvette-sized ships. Unless, of course, you consider ramming to be an elite pilot talent.

Because imagine PTL on a Raider.

You can have PTL. I want Expert Handling on my Raider.

Or Intensity.

Wait.

And the Y-Wing! (Until Scum anyways!)

The amount of insanity you could case with expertise on one of those things is silly

Thematically, though, no one person is piloting a raider. There's a rather large taskforce of people in there coordinating to move the ship. No one person really matters for the ship in the same way as the one pilot of a tie fighter

Because Expert Handling.

They don't have pilots; they have crews.

They have some phenomenal crew that make up for it.

Because they sent out all the elite personnel into the Starfighters and realized too late that they were stuck with the EPTless generics and had to make do.

Mainly this. I mean sure you could have a skilled Helmsman, but it won't be pulling off fancy maneuvers. Also in Star Fighters the pilot calls the shots, in capital ships the captain gives the order and the helmsman follows.

I'll take Daredevil, actually, as i think I can run over more stuff with that.

Way to many broken combos, that's why. It's also the reason traditional Modifications are banned on huge ships. They're only allowed to equip "huge ship only" mods.

Because there's no P's to have the ETs.

This. It is not a single outstanding person. It is a complex interaction of all the crew.

I don't know; Wedge Antilles pulled some pretty crazy stunts in the Night Caller at the Battle of Ession.

Well, in that case it was explicitly Wedge Antilles manning the helm basically operating solo on a ship which was down to a skeleton crew anyway. Theoretically, you might operate the Epic ships in the same way but that would need like, a whole re-evaluation of the mechanic. The ships aren't even pilot cards, but just the one ship card. And even then, most of the ship maneuvers still boil down to drifting sideways, angling, maybe some dramatic rolls - stuff that has no meaning on the mostly 2D plane of the minis.

R2-D6

*sad beep*

I believe Daredevil would be impossible for the same reason Juno Eclipse can't do 4-bank maneuvers - the template doesn't exist. Similarly, a huge ship has no Barrel Roll reference card, so there's no existing mechanic for how to use it.

I'll be flying my Raider with Opportunist and a PS 1 TIE swarm for the blocks. I don't think even Han has that kind of firepower...
